Job Title: Laboratory Technician II

Job Summary: The laboratory Technician II is responsible for performing assigned microbiological or chemistry testing in accordance with regulated laboratory testing techniques, safety protocols, approved procedures, and customer-specific methods, documenting data, and preparing technical documents. Laboratory Technician II assists and trains Laboratory Technicians I.

  • Plans, organizes, and prepares for the day’s work autonomously and in collaboration with team members to determine best methods to accomplish daily goals
  • Prepares and executes microbiology or chemistry Laboratory tests (e.g. Disinfection efficacy testing, Bioburden, Sterility, LAL Endotoxin, Microbial Limits, Anti-Microbial Effectiveness, Organism Identification, EO Residual, cleaning qualifications, and test method validations) in accordance with regulated laboratory testing techniques, safety protocols, approved procedures, and customer-specific preparatory methods. (Note: Specific testing may vary according to location).
  • Reads, interprets, and records test results.
  • Prepares technical documents, such as working instructions, memos, etc. (paper and electronic) using Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Gathers basic information from customer and creates/edits customer-specific preparatory methods (for approval).  
  • Participates in the development and review of testing methods and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Maintains inventory for specified areas.
  • Performs secondary review of data sheets
  • Assists and trains Laboratory Technician I
  • Contributes in a team effort by performing in accordance to all STERIS policies, GMP, Lean principles and other directives; supports the directives and decisions of higher-level management and performs other duties as assigned

Preferred Experience:

  • 2+ years’ related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience in a laboratory operation or technical/scientific field, and basic computer competency is required.
  • 4 years’ experience and knowledge of aseptic laboratory techniques, and microscope familiarity is preferred
  • Requires attention to detail, manual dexterity, well-focused, sense of urgency, good work ethic, and ability to function as part of a team
