SCHEDULE/LOCATION OF WORK

10-hour shifts, 4 days per week (Monday - Thursday)

As a Blast & Paint Shop Technician at K.A. Group, you will play a key role in the finishing process of heavy-duty equipment. Your primary responsibilities will include blasting and painting operations, ensuring that earthmoving equipment components meet high-quality standards for surface preparation and coating applications. This role requires technical expertise, precision, and a strong commitment to safety and quality. 

 KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Operate blasting equipment to prepare surfaces of earthmoving equipment components for painting.
  • Remove rust, dirt, and old coatings to create a clean surface suitable for new coatings.
  • Safely handle and transport equipment components to and from the blasting area.
  • Coordinate with material handlers to ensure the smooth and efficient movement of components throughout the blasting and painting processes.
  • Apply primers and topcoats to equipment components using spray guns or other methods.
  • Ensure even coverage and correct thickness of paint coatings in line with engineering specifications and quality standards.
  • Inspect surfaces post-blasting to verify preparation effectiveness.
  • Conduct visual inspections of painted components to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Perform routine maintenance on paint application equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Report any equipment issues or malfunctions to the supervisor for timely repairs.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Identify and report safety hazards in the blast and paint shop to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Ensure proper disposal of blasting materials and waste.
  • Provide documentation for quality assurance and reporting purposes.
  • Ensure all work orders scheduled are properly punch in/out using the Genius software.
  • Effective time management is expected daily to achieve efficiencies and expected output.
  • Daily clock ins are required using ADP, along with vacation requests, PTO requests.

 SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

  • Technical proficiency in blasting and paint application techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work within strict quality control standards.
  • Ability to operate and maintain blasting and paint application equipment.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills for collaboration with other departments.
  • Good problem-solving skills, especially in relation to equipment or process issues.
  • Ability to maintain a safe and organized work environment.

 EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in blasting, painting, or a similar technical field is preferred.
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license is required for material handling (loader and forklift).
  • Experience with paint application systems and equipment maintenance is an asset.

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  

  • Ability to safely lift and handle heavy equipment components.
  • Physical stamina to stand, bend, and maneuver in various positions during the blasting and painting processes.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, including respirators, gloves, and protective clothing.
  • Some travel may be required for handling equipment and materials across different areas of the facility.
