Position Overview:
The PFA Teacher Assistant / Paraprofessional supports the Preschool For All (PFA) teacher in delivering a high-quality, developmentally appropriate program for preschool-aged children. This role involves direct interaction with students, preparation of instructional materials, and maintaining a safe and engaging learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the teacher in implementing classroom learning activities.
- Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities, including recess and bus duty.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation as directed.
- Support student learning through one-on-one and small group instruction.
- Help prepare and organize instructional materials and the classroom environment.
- Promote health and hygiene practices among students.
- Participate in student assessments and evaluations.
- Communicate with parents and caregivers as needed.
- Uphold confidentiality of student records and personal information.
- Attend and participate in professional development and training.
- Accompany the teacher on scheduled home visits.
- Perform additional tasks aligned with the objectives of the program.
Additional Duties:
- Collaborate with the teacher to plan and deliver effective instructional strategies.
- Provide feedback and input for curriculum development and adaptation.
- Support inclusive practices for students with diverse learning needs.
- Engage with community resources to enrich student learning.
- Assist in managing classroom behavior and resolving student conflicts.
- Foster positive relationships with students, families, and staff.
- Actively participate in team meetings and professional learning communities.
- Seek ongoing opportunities for personal and professional growth.
Requirements
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience working with preschool-aged children (ages 3–5) preferred.
- Must pass background check and fingerprinting as required by DCFS and program guidelines.
- Availability to work Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM – 2:30 PM or 7:30 AM – 11:30 AM.
- Ability to supervise children during outdoor play and physical activities.
- Must be comfortable assisting with hygiene routines, including toileting and handwashing.
- Professional Educator License (PEL) or Paraprofessional Educator License preferred; willingness to obtain if not already held.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
