Job Description: Advex Corporation is currently hiring a full-time Fitter/Welder to join our Heavy Fabrication team in Hampton Roads, Virginia. As a key contributor in our defense manufacturing operations, you will interpret NAVSEA drawings and technical specifications to fabricate and weld critical components for Aircraft Carriers and Submarines. This position requires hands-on experience with carbon steel and corrosion resistant steel (CRES), along with strict adherence to MIL-STD-1688/1689, Tech Pub 248/278, and PPD fabrication standards. You’ll utilize precision measurement tools, apply basic geometry, and fabricate fixtures and templates to improve job efficiency and accuracy. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated professional with at least five years of fabrication experience, capable of working independently or as part of a collaborative team. This is a physically active role requiring regular lifting (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), standing, bending, and working in varying industrial conditions. U.S. citizenship, background check, and drug screening are required due to the nature of our work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret and fabricate components based on NAVSEA drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Perform fitting and welding tasks in compliance with MIL-STD-1688/1689, Tech Pub 248/278, and PPD standards.
- Work with carbon steel and corrosion-resistant steel (CRES) materials, ensuring adherence to fabrication tolerances.
- Utilize precision measurement tools, including a tape measure, and apply basic geometry and fabrication principles.
- Fabricate fixtures and templates as needed to enhance cost efficiency and production accuracy.
- Follow daily job assignment goal sheets, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Heavy Fabrication Department by enhancing safety, quality, cost efficiency, and production schedules.
- Collaborate with team members while demonstrating a strong work ethic and commitment to teamwork.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a fabrication shop environment.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting NAVSEA drawings, blueprints, and technical documentation.
- Experience with MIL-STD-1688/1689, Tech Pub 248/278, and PPD fabrication standards.
- Strong understanding of fabrication tolerances, basic geometry, and measurement tools.
- Ability to fabricate fixtures and templates to improve job efficiency.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Commitment to safety, quality, cost control, and on-time project completion.
Candidates must meet the following employment eligibility guidelines to be considered for employment:
- 18 years of age or older at time of application
- Able to provide proof of US Person Status ((Due to government contracts, U.S. Citizenship is required.)
- No felony convictions of Theft/Deception or Violent crimes within seven years from disposition date
- No felony convictions of Drug crimes within three years from disposition date
- Willing to submit to a drug screen
- Willing to submit a background check
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift and maneuver items up to 50 lbs. frequently and up to 100 lbs. with assistance as needed.
- Capability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
- Must be able to work in varying environmental conditions, including exposure to loud machinery, fluctuating temperatures, and handling industrial materials.
- Position involves repetitive motions and manual handling of tools, metal components, and equipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Must be comfortable working on your feet for extended periods during an 8–10 hour shift.
