Position Summary
This position requires seasoned design knowledge in a 3D environment and the ability to conceptualize overall equipment and station designs. This includes evaluating customer specifications and proactively conducting research to develop cost effective solutions that consider material cost and labor required to provide equipment that meets expectations. This position will create necessary layouts for the overall equipment or stations to support the quotation or new equipment development. Responsibilities include working directly with the customer, customer site visits to evaluate opportunities, assuring proposals adequately cover customer specifications, complete documentation of proposal cost, and assure that each proposal is timely and conveys the required technical detail in a clean concise manner. Tasks include determining methods, sequences of operations, cycle timing, and preparation of all data necessary to develop final concepts and formal quotations. Additional responsibilities could include developing complex mechanical designs/detailing for automated systems for single and multiple assembly applications.
Essential Job Functions
• Conceptualize the customer’s requirements.
• Compile effective estimates for all facets of a proposal with cost reduction in mind.
• Interface effectively with the customer to scope an opportunity or help Sales close an order.
• Possess knowledge of design calculations and develops machine cycle time documents.
• Provide guidance to Engineering and assembly floor on proposal requirements.
• Understand job cost evaluation procedures and analyze job cost.
• Provide clear, concise, easy to read proposals and AutoCAD layouts.
• Provide technical assistance to the Automation department.
• Estimate mechanical and electrical engineering, manufacturing, and assembly hours for a station or complete machines/cells.
• Work with suppliers to secure cost-effective quotes for support equipment and services.
• Other duties as assigned to the position include travel as needed.
• Additional responsibilities could include developing complex mechanical design/detailing for automated systems using Autodesk Inventor for single and multiple assembly applications.
• Basic knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
• Confirm design components and procedures based on best engineering practices.
Education/Experience :
Associate degree in Drafting and Design, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related technical field, with 2+ years of experience in manufacturing, machine design, or machine assembly environments.
Mandatory Qualification Requirements :
• Knowledge of OSHA and ANSI standards along with ISO 9001 knowledge
• Engineering drawing reading and interpretation
• Must be computer literate with advanced knowledge of 3D design and a working knowledge in Microsoft Office
• Blueprint reading and interpretation.
• Must possess mechanical aptitude with strong inter-personal, time management, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Must possess good written and verbal communication skills.
• Must possess excellent motivational skills and multitasking abilities.
• Travel as required domestically and internationally.
