About this position

SUMMARY 

Drives gasoline, liquefied gas, or electric powered industrial forklift, verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment by performing the following duties. Follows all company safety rules.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Moves levers and presses pedals to drive truck and control movement of lifting apparatus.
  • Positions forks, lifting platform, or other lifting device under, over, or around loaded pallets, skids, boxes, products, or material or hooks tow trucks to trailer hitch, and transports load to designated area.
  • Unload and stacks material by raising and lowering lifting device.
  • Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
  • Ensures that products, materials, or parts shipped and received are verified against pertinent documentation. Rejects damaged items, records shortages, and does relevant inventory adjustments.
  • Plans and checks loads before shipment. Responsible for timely and accurate shipping and receiving of materials, parts, or products. Ensures proper packaging and labeling. Ensures shipping requirements are met. 
  • Follows established policies, procedures, and objectives. Trains staff to utilize systems and understand procedures, and monitors them. Coordinates with other shift supervisor(s).
  • Responds to inquiries and resolves problems related to transactions handled by the shipping department.
  • Operates equipment such as forklifts, overhead cranes, or hand truck to move, convey, or hoist products, materials, or parts shipped and received. 
  • Stamps, stencils, or glues identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers, or coil stock.
  • Suggests improvements to procedures and processes. Assists in implementing new operating procedures.
  • Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages.
  • Maintains organization and cleanliness of warehouse. Allocates necessary space for stock rotation. 
  • Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
  • Provides a professional environment with relations to external customers.
  • Follows all company safety rules.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Basic computer skills.


LANGUAGE SKILLS 

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 

Ability to calculated figures and amounts. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. 


REASONING ABILITY 

Ability to analyze and solve problems. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concreate variables in standardized situations. 


OTHER SKILLS

Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Ability to supervise and train employees, which includes organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Must have a strong attention to detail and a positive can-do attitude. Ability to plan and organize tasks and complete detailed activities within defined deadlines. Enthusiastic and self-motivated with concern for quality. Computer literacy and time management skills.
