Position Overview
The responsibilities of the Welder are the fitting and welding of aluminum and steel products using MIG and TIG processes. The primary materials used are thin-wall aluminum tubing. Experience welding thin-wall aluminum strongly preferred, however, we will allow time for training.
Essential Job Functions
- Set up, operate and tend to welding machines that join or bond components to fabricate metal products or assemblies
- Read and interpret blueprint and/or drawings to determine the specific welding requirements
- TIG weld aluminum (.049 and various other wall thicknesses) or steel based on specifications
- Weld custom work with precision tolerances
- Prepare weld joints and measure parts for proper fit
- Fabricate and revise fixtures, jigs, gauges, special tooling and components
- Inspect, measure, or test completed metal workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using measuring and testing devices
- Keep work area clean and organized and take proper care of all equipment and facilities
- Utilize hand grinders/sanders to perform grain finishing
- Observe all safety requirements in all duties
- Perform other duties, as required
Qualifications
- Knowledge of welding rods and proper usage
- Ability to read blueprints, drawings, calipers and tape measures
- Knowledge of welding and fabricating techniques
- Ability to multi-task various projects with high level of detail
- Good verbal, written communication skills, as well as bath math skills
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Positive attitude and good work ethic
- Must be able to pass drug test
Education and Experience
- Completion of one-year certification program in welding from college or technical school; or one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of shop mathematics
- Experience TIG and MIG welding, strongly required
- Experience with aluminum and steel preferred
- Significant experience with the thinner gauges is a plus
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift/or move up to 70#
- Performing physical activities that require considerable use of arms, legs and moving your entire body
Work Conditions
- Must be able to work extended hours with little advance notice to meet project deadlines.
- Manufacturing environment with frequent exposure to odors, fumes, dust or airborne particles
