Overview:
Responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines and vehicles. They work with various types of diesel-powered equipment, including trucks, buses, construction machinery, and generators.
Responsibilities:
- Diagnostic Testing: Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in diesel engines and related systems.
- Repair and Maintenance: Perform repairs and maintenance tasks on diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, and other components according to manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
- Routine Service: Conduct routine maintenance procedures, such as oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks, to prevent breakdowns and prolong engine life.
- Troubleshooting: Investigate and troubleshoot engine malfunctions, electrical problems, and performance issues to determine the root cause and implement effective solutions.
- Parts Replacement: Replace worn or damaged parts, such as injectors, fuel pumps, turbochargers, and gaskets, with new or refurbished components to restore optimal performance.
- Welding and Fabrication: Perform welding and fabrication tasks to repair or modify vehicle chassis, frames, and structural components as needed.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations and guidelines while working on diesel-powered equipment to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and service procedures performed on diesel engines and vehicles for documentation and reporting purposes.
- Customer Service: Interact with customers to understand their concerns, explain repair options, and provide excellent service to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty.
- Training and Development: Stay updated on the latest diesel engine technology, diagnostic techniques, and repair procedures through continuous training and professional development opportunities.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a diesel mechanic training program or apprenticeship preferred.
- ASE certification in diesel engine repair (e.g., Medium-Heavy Truck Certification - T-Series) is desirable.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, computerized systems, and technical manuals.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow safety protocols.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform manual tasks in various weather conditions.
- Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime as needed.
