SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Communications Department is responsible for the NYCLU's external communications strategy to advance the NYCLU's civil liberties and civil rights priorities. This includes criminal justice and policing issues, immigrants' rights, racial justice, education, voting rights, privacy and technology, LGBTQ rights, reproductive rights, and economic justice. We accomplish this by working with high-impact media, launching multimedia advocacy campaigns, releasing reports and research, and running the organization's website and digital channels. The Communications Associate will help provide support across the communications team's digital, media, creative, and editorial work, and manage the department's administrative needs.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Curate and distribute the organization's internal daily summary of relevant news coverage.
Digital and Creative Support
- Make regular updates to the NYCLU website, including uploading job openings, bios, op-eds, statements, legislative memos, and publications.
- Help with production and staging of digital advocacy actions and emails, and tracking performance metrics.
- Maintain department's digital records, including file management and the photos and video archive.
- Assist with the design of internal reports and external promotional materials.
Media and Editorial Support
- Track press clips of NYCLU coverage?
- Assist in monitoring the media telephone line and email inbox.
- Help field and log reporter inquiries.
- Proof and edit content, including blogs, articles, flyers, reports.
- Manage and grow reporter press lists
Administrative Support
- Lead invoicing, expensing, and document filing
- Support preparation of monthly analytics reports
- Maintain physical inventory and record-keeping of publications and products.
- Oversee printing and mailing of products.
- Provide support for events, including press conferences and performances.
- Take up ad-hoc projects as-needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice and the mission and strategic priorities of the NYCLU.
- Demonstrated commitment to ensuring a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace.
- 1 year experience in press or digital communication or administrative/executive support, including internships.
- Strong written and oral communication, as well as research, skills
- Results-oriented with demonstrated ability to plan, organize, prioritize, track progress and meet goals.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, HTML, website maintenance, Adobe Analytics, and/or WordPress or another open-source CMS is a plus.
