DescriptionThe WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor provides mother-to-mother support in breastfeeding goals to WIC participants during pregnancy and after delivery.
Responsibilities
- Builds relationships with WIC participants so they are familiar with peer counseling program and it's benefits.
- Gathers and manages referrals to create a calendar plan for participant contacts, as per Peer Counselor Work Expectations.
- Provides basic breastfeeding support before and after delivery.
- Problem solves WIC participant concerns within scope of practice.
- Consistently exhibits Moses Lake Community Health Center's Service Standards with patients and co-workers.
- Consistently contributes to a work environment that is supportive and values the contributions of everyone.
- Possesses a basic level of written and verbal communication skills, computational and computer skills and mathematical knowledge typically acquired through completion of a high school program.
- Job duties require specific knowledge of WIC program and Loving Support training curriculum processes and practices, typically learned "on the job", or which may include a series of training sessions that would comprise a few weeks if done consecutively.
- Ability to read and speak Spanish and/or Russian is required.
- Must have reliable transportation for home visits and provide documentation of auto insurance and valid driver's license as required.
- Travel between work sites required is required as needed.
