Job Title: Irrigation Technician Trainee

Job Summary: An Irrigation Technician Trainee is responsible for learning how to install, maintain, and repair irrigation systems. You will work closely with a sr. technician and/or install foreman to undergo on-the-job training, while completing various inhouse and online trainings with quizzes to help prepare you for what you will see and experience day to day.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance & Repairs:
- Assist with routine inspections and maintenance on irrigation systems, checking for leaks, clogs, and other malfunctions.
- Troubleshoot and repair damaged pipes, valves, sprinkler heads, controllers, and other irrigation system components.
- Perform system adjustments and calibration to ensure efficiency and proper water distribution.
- Perform trenching and backfilling for installation of irrigation lines and components.
- Assist in conducting spring start-up services including turning water on to the system, walking through the system to identify areas of concern, leaks, spray pattern adjustments, nozzle issues, and or coverage issues.
- Assist in accurately performing winterization of systems to ensure water is properly removed from the system and backflow preventer to prevent freeze damage.
Troubleshooting:
- Learn how to diagnose issues related to water pressure, wiring, controllers, valves, and sprinkler heads.
- Become familiar with diagnostic tools and equipment to detect and fix problems efficiently.
- Possess the ability to learn basic electrical concepts as they relate to irrigation systems, and low voltage lighting systems.
Customer Service:
- Assist in greeting customers upon arrival to site, get approvals as needed to complete work while onsite, and check in with the customer upon completion of service.
- Provide excellent customer service by learning how to address concerns and answer questions correctly.
- Advise customers on water conservation practices and the use of efficient irrigation methods.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Learn how to maintain accurate records of services performed, repairs made, parts used, and any customer interactions.
Safety & Compliance:
- Follow safety protocols to prevent work-related accidents.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in good working conditions.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (green industry experience preferred).
- Knowledge of basic tools.
- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and tools (up to 50 pounds).
- Ability to work in tight spaces and perform physical labor including kneeling, bending, and digging for extended periods.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Work Environment:
- Outdoor work at various residential, commercial, or agricultural locations.
- Some evening or weekend work may be required based on customer needs.
