Founded in 1901, the Northern California Golf Association is the largest allied golf association in the United States. The NCGA has roughly 200,000 members who belong to more than 1,300 member clubs throughout Northern California. The NCGA vision is “to ensure the game is vibrant, inclusive, and accessible” and is focused on enhancing the lives of Northern California golfers by helping them enjoy the benefits of golf for a lifetime. As a key partner with the USGA, the NCGA provides its members with official handicap indexes and helps oversee several critical governance areas for the game of golf. The NCGA owns and operates two golf courses (Poppy Hills and Poppy Ridge), conducts more than 650 days of golf events each year, including championships and competitive golf tournaments for all abilities, and casual golf outings and trips. The NCGA also publishes NCGA Golf magazine, NCGA PLUS digital magazine, and secures exclusive member discounts on products and services. Through the NCGA Foundation, the organization created and expanded Youth on Course, which provides kids access to golf for $5 or less at over 1,700 golf courses across the US and Canada.

The NCGA Foundation, which originally created Youth on Course, has evolved and the NCGA is also the sole member of the NCGA Foundation, which is aimed at growing the game and supporting the golf community throughout Northern California.
The Assistant Manager, Marketing position is responsible for all Marketing efforts related to the Poppy Ridge golf course. This position directly works with Poppy Holding COO and Senior Marketing Manager to support revenue opportunities for Poppy Ridge and NCGA. This position receives daily supervision and is expected to work collaboratively with other NCGA, Poppy Hills, and Poppy Ridge employees to achieve goals and results.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as Growth team liaison to Poppy Ridge. Attend weekly staff meetings for both golf courses (Poppy Hills & including Poppy Ridge for consistency department communications) to coordinate support that is needed. Develop and maintain cooperative partnerships within the NCGA, Poppy Hills and Poppy Ridge communities.
- Assist the Senior Marketing Manager with Acquisition and Retention efforts for NCGA Membership.
- Support Poppy Holding COO and Senior Manager Marketing NCGA & PHI with planning execution, including testing of ideas. Includes but not limited to attending monthly content meetings, social media content creation, UGC & Influencer marketing coordination, website content, Poppy Ridge monthly newsletter, monthly blog content, video content, etc.
- Maintain all Poppy Ridge social media accounts (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Tik Tok etc.) and responsible for minimum 2 posts per week to all platforms.
- Support reputation management and customer service in collaboration with the COO and General Manager by managing Google Business Profiles, Apple Business Register, and Yelp pages for Poppy Ridge Golf Course; oversee golfer satisfaction surveys, including preparing weekly and monthly summaries for property General Managers and responding to service recovery opportunities.
- Assist with in-house paid media creative and placements for NCGA and both golf courses. Responsible for preparing monthly marketing reporting and analytics.
- Prepare and distribute on-site marketing collateral for Poppy Ridge and support Loyalty Club marketing and engagement in coordination with the Head Pro/Director of Golf.
- Support marketing efforts for group events, including but not limited to golf tournament, member outings, golf clinics, and supporting Poppy Ridge Weddings/Banquets.
- Always supports safe work habits and a safe working environment.
- Other duties as assigned, including professional development.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 2+ years of related marketing, brand, and communications experience.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle several tasks simultaneously.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to be a team player.
- Good people skills and high level of customer service.
- Highly developed writing skills for professional publications.
- Ability to operate a camera, take professional photos/video, and modify/edit using Photoshop or similar photo and video editing software programs.
- Ability to maintain a website.
- Strong reasoning ability to understand and carry out instructions and solve problems.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all company and customer information, including use of tact and discretion.
- Valid US Driver’s License.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of and passion for the game of golf (strongly preferred).
WORK SCHEDULE:
- Typically, Monday-Friday, standard business hours 8am-5pm.
- Travel to Poppy Hills/NCGA Headquarters office located in Pebble Beach, CA required bi-monthly. Or conversely, if based in Monterey, travel to Poppy Ridge bi-monthly.
- Occasionally some nights and weekends may be required.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
The salary range for this position is $25.75-$30.00, based on commensurate experience. Some clothing will be provided, with the employee expected to source and maintain a high-standard of attire at all times. The benefits package includes:
- Health, dental and vision insurance, with dependents eligible with added premiums paid by the employee.
- Participation in the company’s 401k plan after one full year of employment.
- “PAR Program” - performance award paid into 401k, with a target of 5% of salary, but can range from 0% to 10%.
- PTO, holidays, meals, and golf benefits also included.
