Position Summary: The Facilities Maintenance Technician plays a key role in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness of the Carter Burden Luncheon Club. This entry-level role ensures the center remains compliant with Department of Health (DOH) and NYC Aging (formerly DFTA) standards. Technicians are expected to work cooperatively, maintain a positive attitude, and uphold high standards of care for our facility and participants. Essential Responsibilities: Working closely with the Program Director, you will translate operational goals into effective day-to-day workflows. You will provide essential custodial support, basic maintenance, and direct service to ensure the team meets performance standards and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities include:
- Maintain daily cleanliness of restrooms, office spaces, kitchen, hallways, stairs, patio, front of the building, and dining areas
- Clean and disinfect high-touch areas and surfaces throughout the shift
- Sweep and mop all designated spaces daily
- Conduct mandatory restroom sanitation routines twice a day—midday and before the end of shift
- Set up and break down tables and chairs as needed for meal service or events
- Assist with dish bussing, kitchen cleanliness, and other food service support
- Replace basic fixtures such as light bulbs
- Ensure all floors and surfaces remain contamination-free
- Report facility issues or safety concerns to supervisors promptly
- Maintain courteous, respectful interactions with older adults and staff
- Organize and maintain pantry inventory
- Serve as a back-up Kitchen Aide during weekend shifts, assisting with dishwashing, meal service, and maintaining the cleanliness and organization of lunch tables and surrounding areas
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Minimum 6 months to 1 year of custodial or maintenance experience preferred
- Ability to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods
- Passion and sensitivity for CBN’s mission
- Respect for older adults and a team-oriented approach
- Basic understanding of cleaning and sanitation procedures
- Ability to safely use cleaning products and equipment
- Familiarity with DOH/DFTA sanitation guidelines (training provided)
- Effective communication in English required; Spanish preferred
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

Supervisory Responsibilities: The Maintenance Technician does not supervise staff.
Position Type & Work Schedule: This full-time, non-exempt role is based at the Carter Burden Luncheon Club. Set 8-hour shifts (with a shorter shift on Wednesdays) fall between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break (approximately 32 hours weekly). You must remain fully accessible during scheduled hours via phone (3CX) and email, aligned with program service needs.
Physical Requirements: This position is based in a multi-level commercial church building located in the Upper East Side and requires the physical ability to perform routine custodial and maintenance duties throughout a four-floor facility. Physical demands include but are not limited to frequent walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing stairs or ladders; standing and moving continuously for extended periods (up to 8 hours); lifting and carrying supplies, furniture, and equipment (up to 50 lbs.); manual dexterity to operate custodial tools and equipment; reaching overhead and working in confined spaces; visual and auditory ability to identify hazards and communicate effectively; and safe use of cleaning agents in compliance with established protocols.
Environmental Conditions: Indoor work with occasional exposure to outdoor conditions, such as trash removal or snow/ice clearing. Exposure to cleaning agents, dust, odors, and potentially wet or slippery surfaces.
Compensation & Benefits: This role offers an hourly rate between $17.25–$18.95, with an annualized base salary of $31,395–$34,489, in full compliance with the NYC Pay Transparency Act. Final placement is based on experience, skills, and internal equity. This role is overtime-eligible.
