POSITION SUMMARY
The Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA is seeking an enthusiastic, reliable, and innovative Robotics Instructor to lead group robotics classes using Sphero robotics technology at the TCF YMCA Youth Program Center. This position focuses on delivering engaging, hands-on STEM instruction that builds problem-solving skills, creativity, teamwork, and confidence in a fun and structured learning environment.
The ideal candidate is passionate about STEM education, enjoys working with youth across a wide age range, and is experienced in managing dynamic group settings. The YMCA will provide training on the Sphero platform and software; however, instructors must bring strong classroom leadership, consistency, and energy to the program.
We are specifically seeking instructors with availability on:
- Weekday evenings (between 4:45 PM – 8:30 PM)
- Saturday mornings or afternoons
Classes will serve participants ranging from ages 5 to 16, in group formats of up to 15 participants per class.
This position requires the ability to commit to consistent scheduling and teach in structured 6-week session blocks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Lead weekly robotics classes in a safe, positive, and structured environment.
- Facilitate hands-on learning using Sphero robots and YMCA-provided software.
- Develop engaging, age-appropriate lesson plans that introduce coding, robotics fundamentals, problem-solving, and STEM concepts.
- Adapt instruction to meet the needs of varying age groups (5–16 years old).
- Manage group sizes of up to 15 participants while maintaining strong classroom control and engagement.
- Encourage teamwork, creativity, critical thinking, and perseverance.
- Support participants in completing robotics challenges, projects, and demonstrations.
- Maintain organized classroom spaces and proper care of robotics equipment.
- Communicate professionally with parents, participants, and YMCA staff.
- Ensure participant safety and adherence to YMCA policies and procedures.
- Arrive prepared and on time for scheduled classes.
- Support enrichment showcases or STEM demonstration events when applicable.
- Uphold YMCA core values in all interactions.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum age of 18 years old.
- Experience working with children and teens required.
- Experience managing groups of up to 15 participants preferred.
- Background in robotics, coding, engineering, education, or STEM-related field preferred.
- Experience with Sphero robots or similar educational robotics platforms preferred (training provided).
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Ability to commit to consistent scheduling across 6-week program sessions.
- Positive attitude and passion for youth development and STEM education.
- Availability during weekday evenings and Saturday mornings/afternoons required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in education, engineering, robotics, or related field preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to actively lead instruction in a classroom setting.
- Extended periods of standing, walking, and engaging with participants.
- Ability to lift and move light equipment or robotics materials as needed.
