About this position

Job Summary:
 The Mental Health Technician (MHT) plays a crucial role in providing direct care and support to patients with mental health and substance abuse disorders. MHTs assist in implementing treatment plans, maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment, and supporting patients through various stages of care. This role requires the ability to manage crisis situations, facilitate therapeutic activities, and assist with medication management while adhering to all safety and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct Patient Care: Provide direct support and supervision to patients with mental health disorders. Assist with daily living activities and ensure a safe and therapeutic environment.
  • Observation and Reporting: Monitor patients’ behavior, mood, and physical condition. Document observations and report any significant changes or concerns to the clinical team or primary care providers.
  • Crisis Intervention: Assist in managing and de-escalating crisis situations. Implement and follow crisis intervention protocols to ensure patient and staff safety.
  • Therapeutic Activities: Facilitate or assist with therapeutic activities and group sessions, following established treatment plans. Encourage patient participation and engagement in these activities.
  • Medication Assistance: Support patients with medication management, including reminding them to take their medications and monitoring for any side effects, as directed by healthcare professionals.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure that all safety protocols and procedures are followed, including maintaining a secure and clean environment. Adhere to all regulations and standards related to patient care and confidentiality.
  • Support and Interaction: Provide emotional support and build rapport with patients. Engage in meaningful interactions to help patients feel understood and supported.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with mental health professionals, such as therapists, social workers, and psychiatrists, to provide comprehensive care. Share relevant information and assist in implementing treatment plans.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of patient interactions, observations, and any incidents. Ensure that all documentation is completed in accordance with organizational and legal standards.
  • Training and Development: Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with best practices in mental health care and crisis management.
  • Administrative Tasks: Perform various administrative tasks as needed, including scheduling, organizing patient files, and assisting with other support functions within the facility.
  • Driving Responsibilities: Drive patients to and from the facility, ensuring their safety during transport. Maintain a clean driving record and pass the Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) screening. Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license in good standing throughout employment.
  • Performs Other Related Duties as Assigned: Management may assign additional duties as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certifications and Licenses: CPR certification required. Must pass MVR screening if driving patients.
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency with Outlook and KIPU (or similar EMR system) required.
  • Other Skills: Strong communication, crisis management, and organizational skills. Ability to maintain professionalism and empathy in high-stress situations.

Salary Information

$17.0 - $18.0 Hourly Wage
