Job Summary

The Area Manager provides leadership and oversight to multiple Boys & Girls Club sites, ensuring program quality, operational excellence, and staff development. This role plays a vital part in driving the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of North Central Illinois by supporting youth development professionals and ensuring Club members receive meaningful, high-impact programming.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Staff Management

  • Model and promote the Club’s mission, vision, and core values.
  • Supervise and support Site Coordinators and Youth Development Assistants.
  • Foster a positive, accountable, and mission-driven culture across all assigned sites.
  • Build strong relationships with members, families, school personnel, staff, and community stakeholders.
  • Schedule and lead regular staff meetings (at least two per month), keeping agendas and minutes.

Program Management & Supervision

  • Ensure sites deliver high-quality, age-appropriate programming aligned with BGCA’s 5 Key Elements.
  • Conduct regular site visits to observe programs and provide coaching to staff.
  • Ensure programs meet enrollment, attendance, and outcome goals.
  • Oversee member recruitment, retention, and engagement strategies.
  • Monitor site ratios and staffing, adjusting as needed to maintain safety and quality.

Administration, Reporting & Financial Management

  • Ensure timely completion of reports, dashboards, and grant compliance documentation.
  • Support accurate data collection and entry in MyClubHub (attendance, grades, etc.).
  • Oversee budgets, inventory, and supply needs at each site.
  • Assist with grant writing and reporting requirements.
  • Participate in mandatory grant-related trainings (some may require overnight travel).
  • Assist HR with recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and staff development.

Communication, Marketing & Resource Development

  • Represent the Club professionally in communication and public presentations.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Community Engagement and school district liaisons.
  • Support the production of newsletters and marketing materials in compliance with BGCA branding.
  • Strengthen partnerships with local organizations and key stakeholders.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong organization, time management, and multitasking skills
  • Professional communication (written and verbal)
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • High interpersonal skills with professionalism and diplomacy
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, databases, and internet research
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Eligible and willing to become certified to drive a 12–15 passenger van

Education and Experience

  • Associate’s degree or 2–3 years of relevant experience required
  • Experience supervising teams and working in youth development settings is preferred
  • Non-profit and grant experience is a plus
