Description:
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) provides clinical and administrative support to urology providers to ensure efficient, high-quality patient care. This role is responsible for patient intake, assisting with in-office procedures, coordinating care, and maintaining accurate medical records. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced specialty environment and is comfortable working with sensitive genitourinary health concerns.
Key Responsibilities
- Room patients and obtain vital signs, medical histories, and medication reconciliation
- Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers during urologic procedures (cystoscopy, catheter placement, bladder scans, vasectomy, prostate biopsy, etc.)
- Perform clinical tasks including injections, EKGs (if applicable), urinalysis, specimen collection, and point-of-care testing
- Conduct bladder scans and assist with urodynamic studies (if trained)
- Provide patient education regarding medications, treatment plans, and post-procedure care
- Process prescription refills and prior authorizations as directed
- Prepare and sterilize instruments and exam rooms
- Maintain accurate documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Coordinate referrals, imaging, labs, and follow-up appointments
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control protocols
- Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) required
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum 1–2 years of clinical experience preferred; urology experience strongly preferred
- Experience with EMR systems (eClinicalWorks, Athena, Epic, etc.)
- Knowledge of medical terminology and basic pharmacology
- Current BLS certification preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of common urologic conditions (BPH, kidney stones, urinary incontinence, UTIs, prostate cancer, erectile dysfunction, etc.) preferred
- Ability to handle sensitive patient concerns with professionalism and discretion
- Strong clinical and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and patient service skills
- Ability to multitask in a high-volume specialty practice
- Team-oriented with a positive attitude

- Prolonged standing and walking during clinic sessions
