Job Type: Full-time, Exempt, 32 hours per week, 4 days per week (Tuesday-Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm)

Bicycle Transit Systems is a woman-owned business with a mission to operate bike share systems that create connections in our communities and protect our planet. We operate and manage a portfolio of bike share systems across the United States, as well as a nation-wide customer service call center. We are looking for an exceptional Operations Manager to join our Santa Cruz team!

Santa Cruz BCycle is looking for a qualified full-time Operations Manager to build and lead a fast-paced, customer-focused, fun and hardworking technical operations team. The Santa Cruz BCycle Operations Manager will be a dependable, organized, self-starter who enjoys the challenge of a dynamic environment, is adaptable, works well with a variety of people, Prospective employees must possess excellent technical, management and customer service skills. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build, train, lead, and manage a team of Service Technicians/Bicycle Mechanics to ensure that BCycle’s fleet of electric bikes and stations are a reliable and attractive service for the community; These duties will include: 
  •  Station and dock mechanical and technical performance 
  •  Station power management 
  •  Bike fleet power management and maintenance 
  •  Bike station rebalancing 
  •  Station and bike cleanliness 
  •  Customer service & special event support 
    • Lead a team of Service Technicians and Bicycle Mechanics, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations. 
    • Manage workshop operations and service vehicle fleet including tool and maintenance parts inventory. 
    • Manage & forecast Tech Operations budget.
    • Support station installation and removal process, coordinating vehicle support and staff. 
    • Coordinate with customer service and operation feedback to serve the needs of customers. 
    • Work under the guidance of the General Manager.
    • Utilize analytics and system software to support operational excellence.
    • Complete regular performance reviews of direct reports to ensure that all team members receive performance reviews.  
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: 

    • High proficiency in Excel, Word, Microsoft Applications, and ability to learn new software. 
    • Excellent organization, written and verbal communication skills; ability to meet deadlines. 
    • Prior experience directly managing a team of employees. 
    • Ability to coordinate and maintain strong ongoing relationships among multiple parties, including employees, manufacturers, subcontractor(s)and clients. 
    • Ability to understand technical aspects of the software and the hardware capabilities and needs of a bike share system. 
    • Organized thinker, with the ability to self-direct under a high-visibility, start-up environment responsible for delivering a 24/7 public transit service. 
    • Ability to drive continuous improvements of the operations that are in line with international standards and company corporate initiatives. 
    • Comfortable in a high-pressure, high-visibility, start-up environment. 
    • Ability to adapt to changing roles. 
    • Valid driver license and clean driving record 
    • Small team skills and a willingness to have fun while completing the goals area must! 
    • A familiarity with Bosch Ebike Systems and Bosch Tech Certified preferred
    • Direct experience leading and managing bike share / micro mobility operations preferred

    Physical Requirements and Special Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

    • This is a full-time position expected to work 32 hours per week (4 days per week, 8 hours per day). Some hours outside of this, including nights and weekends, may be required. 
    • May require bending, stooping, and twisting throughout the day. 
    • May require the ability to regularly lift objects up to 65+lbs and carry objects of this weight for distances up to 150 feet.
    • May require the ability to perform work while standing for prolonged periods of time.   
    • May require working and riding a bicycle outdoors in various temperatures including rain, cold and heat conditions.  
    • Comfortable with driving, stopping and working in busy outdoor urban environments.    
    • This role requires the ability to speak clearly so listeners can understand, understand the speech of another person, see details of objects that are less than a few feet away, stand or sit for several hours straight at a time, and bend or stoop as necessary.
