Position Summary:
The Staff RN on the Geriatric Inpatient Psychiatric Unit provides compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to older adults experiencing acute psychiatric conditions. The RN collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to promote safety, stabilization, and recovery in a structured therapeutic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and develop individualized care plans.
- Administer medications and monitor for therapeutic and adverse effects.
- Provide direct patient care including assistance with ADLs, behavioral interventions, and crisis management.
- Monitor and document changes in mental and physical health status.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, social workers, therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Educate patients and families on diagnoses, medications, and discharge planning.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, state regulations, and Joint Commission standards.
- Participate in unit safety rounds, de-escalation techniques, and emergency response protocols.
- Advocate for patient dignity, autonomy, and rights in all aspects of care.
Qualifications:

Required:
- Current RN license in [State]
- BLS certification
- Strong clinical judgment and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, emotionally demanding environment

Preferred:
- Experience in psychiatric or geriatric nursing
- CPI or other crisis intervention certification
- BSN or higher degree in nursing
Physical and Mental Demands:
- Ability to stand, walk, and assist patients for extended periods.
- Capacity to manage stressful situations and respond calmly to psychiatric emergencies.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical interventions when necessary.
