Job Summary: Responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of the Safety and Security Department to provide maximum safety and security for students, staff, center property and the surrounding community.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Adheres to all Department of Labor, Career Systems Development policies and procedures, and the Center Operating Procedures.
- Assists students in adjusting to Center life to enhance student retention by providing supervision, behavior modification, counseling, and by acting as a positive role model and mentor.
- Prepares reports and forms and documents in CIS case notes and files observations of student’s behavior, performance, notable information or events, and progress towards achieving goals and objectives.
- Maintains confidentiality but reports significant events or situations immediately through approved channels to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of students and staff, and to ensure that required reporting occurs, and that students receive emergency services as needed.
- Ensures equipment and assigned work areas are clean and maintained in accordance with Center, CSD, and DOL standards, including conducting quarterly property counts, submitting property relocation requests, may serve as a property custodian, and submits maintenance requests as needed.
- Enforces all laws, rules and regulations. Enforces the Zero Tolerance Policy and reports violations immediately to supervisor and/or duty officer.
- Acts as the Security supervisor on shift.
- Patrols assigned areas and remains alert for disturbances, fires, safety hazards, traffic violators, suspicious acts and/or persons, and other unusual conditions.
- Responds to any reports of disturbances, unauthorized visitors, medical emergencies, and may be asked to search and quickly locate students upon request.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum: High school graduate or equivalent. Two years work-related experience. May require a Guard Card or ability to obtain a Guard Card per State requirements.
Preferred: Associates degree or bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or closely related field. Safety Certifications, law enforcement experience. Extensive experience.
Knowledge: Knowledge of investigative techniques. Knowledge of riot and crowd control techniques. Knowledge of law enforcement procedures. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid State driver’s license. Must obtain and maintain valid CPR/FA certificates. Ability to effectively relate to trainee population. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to obtain state Security officer certification within 90 days of hire.
