Job Summary/Objective

This job is primarily responsible for working at Atalco loading barges. This is a general position that performs a wide variety of duties that are based on the daily needs of the operation.

 Essential Functions

· Responsibilities include:

o  are responsible for drafting barges.

· securing barges with ropes/winch cables.

· opening and closing hatch covers.

· washing loaded barges of product dusting.

· for replacing winch cables when they need to be replaced.

· Deckhands are responsible for greasing winches/cables.

· Deckhands are responsible for care of water pumps on dock.

· Deckhands are responsible for general preventative maintenance of winches and cables.

· Deckhands are responsible for general housekeeping duties on dock.

 
 

Education/Training Requirements

Highschool diploma or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Preferred – 1 year of experience, certifications, specific industry experience, specific qualifications for the role.

Work Environment

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment.

Physical Demands

· Ability to lift/push/pull 45 lbs. occasionally.

· Ability to climb, crouch, stoop, bend, and squat, frequently.

· Ability to stand and walk constantly/continuously.

· Ability to balance constantly/continuously.

· Ability to kneel occasionally.

· Ability to safely walk on barge surface(s) with the ability to work around deep water.

· Ability to understand and communicate verbally, in person and over two-way radio.
