About this position
Support product development projects from concept through commercialization, with limited supervision. As part of a team, assist with developing and testing formulas and processes for new products, quality improvements, and cost reductions.
Essential Functions
Plan and execute experiments using established laboratory/pilot plant/operations methods, ensuring all experiments meet FDA food manufacturing guidelines; keep accurate and detailed records on lab work and data analysisInterpret experiment results and translate them into possible solutionsExecute pilot lab runs, consumer tests, plant trials, and validation trialsLead small and medium projects, demonstrating good teamwork, effectively managing time, and delivering projects on time and in fullMaintain ingredient inventory and lot code trackingWork with internal resources to quickly communicate needed information for recallsSafely operate, clean, and maintain labware and equipment used for testing, adhering to sanitation requirements in the handling and preparation of food productsWrite product, ingredient, and process specificationsDevelop strong cross-functional relationships within the R&D team as well as with Marketing, Insights, Quality, Operations, Engineering, Regulatory, etc.Bring innovative ideas to support strategic plans and enable R&D to apply this knowledge to assigned projectsCollaborate with R&D Supervisor/Manager to develop contingency plansSupport food safety program, quality standards, and legality of products manufactured in the facilityPerform other job-related duties as assignedQualifications (Education, Experience, Competencies)
Bachelor’s degree in food science or related field2-4 years of R&D product development experience in the food and/or beverage industryKnowledge of food ingredient functionality, product formulations, and modification techniquesKnowledge of all stages of the product development life cycle and product development methodologiesUnderstanding of manufacturing equipment, their processes, and capabilitiesStrong passion for science, creative thinking, and product developmentGood cross-functional and peer relationship building skillsProficient computer skills including Microsoft Office programs: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPointStrong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skillsDetail oriented with strong problem-solving and analytical skillsSelf-motivated with the ability to work independently, organize and prioritize, show flexibility, and multi-task to execute simultaneous projects and activities to meet objectives and deadlinesAbility to thrive in a fast-moving and constantly evolving high-growth environmentMON123
