Reports To: Safety & Sustainability Manager Category: Seasonal, Non-Exempt Salary Range: DOE 

 

Position Summary 

The Safety Technician supports the day-to-day implementation of Icy Strait Point’s Safety Program. This role conducts inspections, supports incident reporting and follow-up, assists with safety training, and promotes a strong culture of health and safety across all operations. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and committed to ensuring a safe workplace for employees, contractors, and guests. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

Conduct routine safety inspections of facilities, equipment, worksites, and operational areasPerform safety audits of tours and operational activitiesInspect and maintain safety supplies and equipment, including first aid kits, AEDs, and fire extinguishersSupport incident and hazard reporting, investigations, and corrective actionsAssist with incident follow-up, including hazard correction and collection of witness statements and photosTrack and review safety checklists and required safety meeting documentationMaintain accurate safety records, inspection logs, and training documentationIdentify hazards and recommend mitigation strategiesAssist with safety signage, communications, and awareness effortsSupport staff safety training programs and deliver presentations to employees at all levelsMaintain familiarity with the HSI Safety Management System to assist staff with training, checklists, and incident reportingConduct monthly first aid kit restocks and monitor supply levels; communicate needs to the Safety ManagerParticipate in emergency drills and assist with emergency coordinationPromote a strong safety culture by encouraging near-miss reporting and recognizing positive safety practicesSupport regulatory readiness and compliance with OSHA standardsPerform other related duties as assigned
 

Physical Requirements & Work Environment 

Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments in variable weather conditionsAbility to stand, walk, and move throughout facilities and worksites for extended periodsAbility to lift and carry safety supplies and equipment as needed 

Qualifications 

High school diploma or equivalent requiredPrevious safety, health, or related experience preferredExceptional verbal communication and presentation skills, with the ability to train and engage diverse audiencesStrong attention to detail and organizational skillsCurrent Red Cross Instructor certification (or ability to obtain) preferredBasic computer proficiency
