Senior Solutions Architect – Global Payments Platforms

Job Overview

We are seeking a Senior Solutions Architect – Global Payments to design and lead the evolution of a multi-country, multi-rail payments and credit platform supporting card acceptance (CP and CNP), fuel card integrations, direct billing, ACH/RTP, and custom aviation billing workflows.

This role will define the target-state architecture for a scalable payments ecosystem across multiple geographies and payment rails. The architect will partner with product, treasury, operations, and engineering teams to build a resilient platform capable of supporting high-value enterprise transactions.

Key Responsibilities

Payments Architecture & Strategy

  • Define target-state architecture across card-present and card-not-present environments
  • Design multi-acquirer and multi-region connectivity strategies
  • Evaluate PSP vs acquiring vs hybrid models
  • Establish tokenization strategies and vault ownership models

Orchestration & Routing Design

  • Architect an orchestration layer with:
    • Intelligent routing
    • Soft-decline retry logic
    • Failover strategies
    • SCA exemption management
  • Design abstraction layers enabling new country or acquirer integrations

Regulatory & Scheme Compliance

  • Lead PSD2 / SCA / 3DS 2.x architecture
  • Implement stored credential frameworks and MIT handling
  • Ensure PCI DSS compliance optimization
  • Maintain compliance with major card networks (Visa, Mastercard)

Payment Model Support

  • Architect integrations with fuel and fleet card providers
  • Design direct bill and credit lifecycle flows
  • Support hybrid payment models (card + ACH + invoice)

Cross-Functional Alignment

  • Partner with Treasury on settlement, reconciliation, and FX strategy
  • Collaborate with operations and digital teams on payment experience
  • Evaluate vendors and platforms (e.g., Adyen, Stripe, Elavon)

Performance & Optimization

  • Optimize authorization rates and decline recovery
  • Define monitoring frameworks and analytics across acquirers
  • Track KPIs such as:
    • Authorization success rate
    • Decline recovery
    • Cost per transaction
    • SCA success rate

Required Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in payments architecture or fintech infrastructure
  • Experience with:
    • Global PSPs (Stripe, Adyen) or
    • Traditional acquirers (Fiserv, Worldpay, etc.)
    • In-house payment gateway builds
  • Deep understanding of:
    • CP and CNP payment flows
    • SCA / 3DS 2.x
    • Stored credentials and MIT
    • Multi-MID and cross-border payment setups
  • Experience with ACH, RTP, SEPA, or direct debit rails
  • Experience designing high-availability 24/7 systems

Preferred Experience

  • Aviation, travel, hospitality, or fleet payments
  • Multi-country regulatory environments (US and EU)
  • B2B credit lifecycle platforms
  • PCI scope reduction strategies
