At The Burkard School, we are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Upper Elementary Educator with a strong passion for working with neurodiverse students and experience supporting students with behavioral challenges. Our students are academically capable, often performing at or above grade level. Many are twice-exceptional (2e), demonstrating high cognitive ability alongside differences in executive functioning or emotional regulation. This role is for a 4th-grade class. Position OverviewThe Upper Elementary Educator is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing an engaging and rigorous instructional program that supports students in reaching their full academic potential.Working in close collaboration with the Classroom Behavior Specialist, this educator will deliver dynamic, multi-modal instruction while coordinating with administration, staff, specialists, and families to ensure the holistic development of each student.Key ResponsibilitiesImplement established curricula in ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies with fidelity.Utilize a multi-modal instructional approach to meet the diverse learning needs of students.Prepare students for all required assessments.Foster a structured, engaging, and student-centered classroom environment that supports both academic and personal growth.Engage in long- and short-term lesson planning tailored to individual student needs.Collaborate with the Classroom Behavior Specialist (co-teacher) to implement effective classroom management and support social-emotional learning.Maintain strong communication and collaboration with parents, staff, specialists, and administration.Incorporate feedback and coaching from school leadership and behavioral specialists.coContinuously expand subject-matter expertise and stay informed about best practices in education.Maintain a high level of organization and preparedness for classroom instruction, meetings, and school events.Assess student progress and prepare individual achievement reports for parents and administration each semester.Represent The Burkard School at community events.Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Academics and the Head of School.Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesA strong ability to engage and support elementary-aged students with diverse learning needs.Experience working with students who require additional support with self-regulation, executive functioning, and social-emotional learning.Familiarity with managing challenging classroom behaviors in a constructive and supportive manner.A commitment to using differentiated instruction and varied teaching methodologies to accommodate diverse learning styles.Flexibility and adaptability to meet the specific needs of students.Excellent communication skills with parents, staff, and administrators.Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.Openness to professional growth and responsiveness to feedback.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in lesson planning, assessment, and reporting.Comfort with public speaking and representing the school at community events.QualificationsBachelor's DegreeTeaching Credential or Master’s Degree in Education or related field preferred2+ years of full-time lead classroom teaching experience (K–8 preferred), including at least 1 year in an upper elementary setting (Grades 3–6 preferred)Compensation & BenefitsSalary: $65,000 – $105,000, based on experience, credentials, and/or degree(s)Health Benefits: 100% employee premium coverage for health, dental, and vision insuranceRetirement: 401K plan to support long-term financial wellnessThis role is ideal for an educator who is compassionate, innovative, and committed to supporting neurodiverse students in a structured and affirming learning environment.If you are looking to make a meaningful difference in students’ lives while growing as a professional, we invite you to apply.
