Job Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Software Engineer II with a strong focus on mobile application development to support iOS, Android, and Android Automotive OS (AAOS)

platforms. This role will help design, build, and maintain high-quality mobile applications that interface with connected vehicle systems, cloud services, and edge devices.

 

The Software Engineer will develop scalable, reliable, and user-friendly mobile solutions that enable real-time data visualization, driver interaction, and vehicle-centric workflows. As a key contributor, this role will collaborate closely with backend, edge systems, data science, and product teams to deliver end-to-end mobile solutions that support MOTER’s connected vehicle and insurance products.

 

This role requires strong mobile development expertise, ownership of technical deliverables, and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams. Clear communication and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into practical implementations are essential for success.

 

Essential Functions

  • Mobile Application Development: Design, develop, test, and maintain mobile applications for iOS, Android, and Android Automotive OS using modern frameworks and best practices.
  • Cross-Platform Development: Build and maintain shared mobile application logic using cross-platform technologies (e.g., React Native) while ensuring native performance, platform-specific user experiences.  
  • Platform Integration: Integrate mobile applications with backend APIs, cloud services, and edge/vehicle systems to support real-time and near-real-time data flows,
  • Architecture & Design: Contribute to mobile application architecture, ensuring scalability, performance, security, and maintainability. 
  • UX/UI Design Collaboration: Partner closely with product managers and designers to translate requirements into intuitive, high-quality mobile experiences, contributing meaningfully to UX/UI design using tools such as Figma (or similar).
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with product, UX, backend, data science, and edge systems teams to deliver cohesive end-to-end solutions.
  • Quality & Reliability: Implement unit tests, integration tests, and CI/CD pipelines to ensure high-quality, reliable mobile applications.
  • Performance & Optimization: Monitor, profile, and optimize mobile application performance, battery usage, and resource utilization.
  • Compliance & Security: Ensure mobile applications adhere to security best practices, privacy requirements, and relevant industry standards.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay current with mobile development trends, SDK updates, and emerging technologies in iOS, Android, and automotive software ecosystems.  
  • Other Duties: Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field required (Master’s degree preferred).
  • 3+ years of hands-on software development experience, with a strong emphasis on mobile application development. 
  • Proficiency in mobile programming languages and frameworks, including Java and/or Kotlin for Android development; Swift (and/or Objective-C) for iOS development; React Native for cross-platform mobile development 
  • Experience developing, testing, and deploying mobile applications to the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. 
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs, JSON, and mobile-to-backend communication patterns. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. 
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver production-quality software and support multiple releases.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing applications for Android Automotive OS (AAOS) or in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems. 
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) and mobile integration with cloud-native services.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools for mobile development.
  • Knowledge of mobile security, authentication, and data privacy best practices.
  • Familiarity with automotive, IoT, or connected device ecosystems.
  • Exposure to telematics, sensor data visualization, or real-time data streaming in mobile applications.

 

Office Location

  • Torrance, CA - Hybrid (Tuesday and Thursday in office)

 

Compensation

  • For California based hires, the annual salary range is $110,000 - $120,000 depending on experience.
  • FLSA Job Status is Non-Exempt
