Position Summary of Shipping Clerk
The shipping clerk is responsible for coordinating inbound and outbound shipping activities. This role verifies load information, signs drivers in and out, schedules outbound appointments while maintaining strong communication with internal teams, carriers and drivers while owning outbound document processing, filing, and verification.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain personal safety and safe operation as a primary deliverable.
- Operate within a Team environment.
- Records arrival and departure times for outbound loads.
- Verifies all load information (pick up number, appointment time, BOL number, master number, and destinations).
- Maintains accurate logs: Appointment log, Driver log, Detention log, and Bils of Landings.
- Conduct a daily yard check to ensure accurate accounting of trailers in yard and all trailers are closed and sealed.
- Print bill of ladings including seal, trailer, loader details, release and scans bills.
- Ensures all bill of ladings are properly released, scanned, and filed.
- Coordinates with the load planner on scheduling changes, shipping requirements and carrier updates.
- Coordinate/schedule outbound common carrier loads.
- Notify loaders, carriers and incoming drivers of cut off times.
- Acts as a liaison between carriers and shipping leads.
- Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one-month related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills
- Language: Ability to read, write , speak and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals in English.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division. basic fractions and interpret graphs.
- Reasoning: Ability to apply common sense and solve problems involving multiple variables.
Physical Demands
Frequently required to stand and walk for entirety of designated shift. Have dexterity and use hands and fingers. Capable of stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing and balancing. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision and depth perception.
