Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and reliable Veterinary Assistant to join our small animal practice. The ideal candidate will support our veterinarians and technicians in providing high-quality medical and surgical care to dogs and cats. This role includes assisting with patient handling, preparing exam and treatment areas, performing basic laboratory tasks, and ensuring a clean, organized, and welcoming clinic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians and technicians during exams, diagnostic procedures, dental cleanings, and surgeries.

  • Safely and gently restrain dogs and cats for examinations, blood draws, and treatments.

  • Clean and disinfect exam rooms, kennels, surgical suites, and equipment between patients.

  • Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments and maintain inventory of supplies.

  • Feed, walk, and provide basic care for hospitalized or boarding animals.

  • Collect and process laboratory samples (fecal, urine, blood) as directed.

  • Monitor patients during recovery and report changes in condition to medical staff.

  • Maintain accurate patient records in the clinic’s software system.

  • Educate clients on post-operative care, medications, and general pet health.

  • Support reception as needed by answering phones, scheduling appointments, or assisting with client check-in/check-out.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Completion of a veterinary assistant training program or equivalent experience in a small animal practice preferred.

  • Knowledge of small animal handling, restraint, and basic medical terminology.

  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and customer service skills.

  • Ability to stay calm and compassionate in stressful situations.

  • Comfort working with dogs and cats of all sizes and temperaments.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and restrain animals up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.

  • Exposure to animal dander, noise, odors, and cleaning agents.

Schedule

  • Monday - Friday - 8am - 6pm
