Description:
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
To provide a safe, sanitary, orderly, and attractive environment for patients, hospital employees and visitors. Responsible for repetitive tasks in routine cleaning and special assignments in designated areas and other assigned areas.
Full-time, benefited position working 80 hours per two week pay period. Days of work are Monday - Friday from 2:30pm to 11:00pm with 1 weekend a month and holidays as needed. Will be on the weekend on call rotation.
JOB FUNCTIONS
- Cleans OR Suites and Sterile Processing Department, corridors, service areas, lounges, offices and assigned areas.
- Interacts with patients, staff, and visitors in a professional manner while performing duties.
- Uses cleaning chemicals properly, including correct dilution, dwell time, and safe handling.
- Cleans rest rooms and replenishes essentials.
- Collects linen and disposes of trash to designated area.
- Performs thorough cleaning and disinfection of high-touch surfaces per department standards.
- Performs scheduled cleaning tasks, including washing walls, washing windows, and cleaning drapes, blinds, refrigerators, etc.
- Cleans and disinfects non-critical medical equipment, including IV stands, pumps, beds, instrument carts, utensils, and other equipment, using approved germicidal solutions.
- Moves equipment and furniture for cleaning and rearrangement.
- Operates various types of cleaning equipment as required.
- Cleans work area and equipment at the end of the shift.
- Carries and responds to assigned JRMC pager and addresses cleaning requests throughout their shift
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION: (ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES TECH)
- Preparation and Training - Must be able to follow oral or written orders.
- Work Experience - No formal experience is required; on-the-job training is provided. Previous institutional housekeeping experience desirable.
- Attendance - Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee at JRMC. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working. Employees are also expected to remain at work for their entire work schedule.
- Analytical Ability - Ability to recognize cleaning needs, prioritize tasks, and follow procedures to ensure areas are cleaned thoroughly, safely, and on time.
- Independent Judgment - Work is performed independently. Employees must use their judgement to plan and carry out their work in situations where methods and procedures are established.
- Contracts with Others - Frequent contact with patients, visitors and nursing personnel.
- Supervising the Work of Others - Usually works independently. Does not oversee work of others.
- Responsibility for Welfare of Others - Carelessness could result in moderate harm to patients, visitors, and co-workers caused from wet floors or improper cleaning.
- Mental / Visual Effort - Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner. Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the major requirements of this position can be met. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
- Working Conditions - Works indoors in a controlled environment; hands are frequently in contact with water and cleaning solutions. May be requested to work shifts other than the one for which hired. Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. Participates in and complies with the JRMC Safety Management Program. Maintains knowledge of and observes Standard Precautions. Follows infection prevention practices and approved cleaning/disinfection procedures.
- Material and / or Equipment - Operates a variety of cleaning equipment and tools, including vacuums, carts, mops, buckets, and other approved cleaning/disinfection equipment. Probable costs would be minimal and limited to a single cost center.
- Hazards - Is subject to slips, trips, and falls from wet floors or work areas. May be exposed to dust, cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, and disease when cleaning contaminated rooms. OSHA Job Classification: This position is defined as Category 1: Employee does have exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
- Promotion - No formal line of promotion.
- Background Check - A comprehensive background check will be conducted as a condition of employment for this role.
- Drug Screen - A urine drug screening is required for all positions and must be completed within 30 days of the date of hire.
