About this position

SUMMARY: 

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Construction Project Manager to oversee and manage horizontal construction projects including roadways, utilities, site grading, drainage systems, and other civil infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering or construction management, excellent leadership abilities, and a proven track record of delivering infrastructure projects on time and within budget.



Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 


  • Manage and supervise all phases of horizontal construction projects from planning to completion.
  • Supervise day-to-day field operations for horizontal construction projects including utilities (water, sewer, storm drain), road construction, grading, and site infrastructure.
  • Coordinate and manage subcontractors, vendors, and inspectors to maintain project progress and quality.
  • Monitor and enforce site safety in compliance with OSHA standards and company policies.
  • Ensure projects are executed in compliance with all safety regulations, quality standards, and contract requirements.
  • Develop project timelines, budgets, cost estimates, and schedules.
  • Review project plans, specifications, and scopes of work.
  • Read and interpret civil construction drawings, specifications, and plans.
  • Maintain daily field logs, progress reports, documentation and prepare regular reports on project status.
  • Schedule and oversee inspections and testing (compaction, density, pipe pressure, etc.).
  • Work closely with development managers to ensure alignment on timelines, budgets, and change orders.
  • Proactively identify and resolve field issues, conflicts, and scheduling delays.
  • Conduct regular site meetings and coordinate with engineers, surveyors, and clients.
  • Maintain project schedule and enforce deadlines with subcontractors. 
  • Produce weekly reports to executive team. 
  • Manage procurement of materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
  • Prepare requests for proposal on all jobs. 

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred). 


EXPERIENCE:

Must have at least five (5) years of experience managing projects in horizontal construction.


SKILLS: 

Must have the following skills and/or abilities:


  • Strong knowledge of utility installation, roadway construction, grading, and erosion control.
  • Proficiency with civil plans, survey staking, and inspection requirements.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate field teams while maintaining safety and productivity.
  • Excellent communication, leadership and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Windows operating systems and Procore Construction software.
  • Should be able to create gnat charts.
  • Must have the ability to report issues in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Experience working on smartphones and tablets.
  • Ability to work with numerous contractors and sub-contractors in an efficient manner. 
  • Extensive knowledge of utility installation and requirements.


LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:  

Must have a current Texas driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record. 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to perform the following physical activity on a frequent to constant basis:

  • Sit for long periods of time while gathering, updating, and validating vendor or supplier cost information or performing other related activities.
  • Lift 10–20 lbs. of files, plans, office supplies, or similar items. 
  • Constantly uses fingers and hands when dialing/answering the telephone and operating a computer or other office machinery, such as a copy machine, scanner, and computer printer.
  • Ability to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information through verbal communications in person or detect objects in and around job site over the telephone.
  • Average, ordinary visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents; operate a computer or other office machinery; or.
  • Walk short distances on slippery, even, and/or uneven surfaces.
  • Stand, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, turn, or crawl.
  • Climb and balance on stairs, metal/wooden beams, concrete form work, ladders, or other structures/elevated areas.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Daily job site visits involve performing work in outdoor weather conditions with exposure to extreme cold, heat, and noise depending upon project site; and may also include the following:

     dust, fumes, cleaning chemicals, and/or other harsh/hazardous solvents or disinfectants   

     electrical components, power lines, or other electrical hazards

     rebar, blades, or other sharp objects/tools 

     high elevations, trenches, or crawl spaces

  • Travel locally during the workday between jobsites, although some out-of-area travel may be expected with seldom overnight travel.

  • Adhere to and perform functions according to company and OSHA safety guidelines.
  • Wear personal protective equipment as required such as steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, vest, and the like while conducting job site visits.
  • Maintain regular, timely, and predictable attendance.
