Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Counselor or Counselor Supervisee to join our residential treatment team. This role is centered on the core of residential programming—group facilitation and recovery-focused engagement. The ideal candidate is passionate about substance use disorder treatment, thrives in a group-based therapeutic environment, and values consistent presence with clients in early recovery.

In this role, you will primarily facilitate clinical and psychoeducational groups, conduct recovery-oriented one-on-one sessions, and complete intake assessments. You will support adults ages 18+ as they build insight, skills, accountability, and connection during residential treatment, while collaborating closely with the broader clinical and case management teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitation of core residential clinical groups, including psychoeducation, process groups, and recovery-focused therapeutic groups.
  • Conducting recovery-oriented individual sessions focused on engagement, stabilization, insight development, and treatment participation.
  • Completion of intake assessments following pre-assessment.
  • Contributing clinical observations and client updates during treatment team meetings.
  • Supporting individualized service and treatment planning through group participation and 1:1 engagement.
  • Collaborating closely with Case Management and interdisciplinary team members to support the client’s treatment experience.
  • Maintaining appropriate professional communication with individuals involved in client care, as directed.
  • Completing all clinical documentation in accordance with accreditation standards, state licensing requirements, and billing guidelines in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Supporting continuity of care through appropriate clinical handoffs and coordination (discharge planning led by Case Management).
  • Performing all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education / Credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Counselor Supervisees welcome and encouraged to apply.
  • License preferred: CSAC or CSAC-S

Experience

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in human services, substance use disorder treatment, or a related setting.
  • Experience facilitating group-based programming strongly preferred.
  • Experience using electronic medical record (EMR) systems for clinical documentation.

Knowledge / Skills

  • Strong group facilitation and engagement skills.
  • Familiarity with 12-step recovery programs and recovery-oriented frameworks.
  • Solid clinical documentation practices.
  • De-escalation and basic crisis intervention skills.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a structured residential treatment environment.

Working Conditions

  • Direct care clinical position within a residential treatment setting providing services across ASAM levels 3.5, 3.1, and 2.5.
  • Role is primarily group-based, with scheduled recovery-oriented individual sessions and intake assessments.
  • Full-time scheduling aligned with residential programming needs.
    • Monday–Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm

The pay range for this role is:
60,000 - 71,500 USD per year(Lynchburg 3.5)
