About this position

Reporting to the assigned Nurse Coordinator.  As the Nurse Manager, you will oversee all nursing staff at the Mulrooney Manor Residence.  You will continue to be on-call Monday to Friday and will serve as the hospital liaison for challenging cases assigned by the Nurse Coordinator.  



Specific duties include the following, but are not limited to: 

  • provides the facility and staff with means for the prompt detection and referral of health problems through coordination of adequate medical surveillance, periodic inspection, and regular medical examinations. 
  • writes an annual Nursing Summary Evaluation and Service Plan for each client. 
  • Participates in the continuing interdisciplinary evaluation of each client for the purpose of beginning, monitoring and following up on each client’s individualized medical needs. 
  • Attends and participates in staff conferences and in the Inter-disciplinary Treatment Team meetings, including 90 day and annual reviews. 
  • Reports communicable diseases and infections in accordance with the law. 
  • Participates in pre-admission planning and evaluations, program designs and placement of clients at the time of admissions. 
  • Trains staff in detecting signs of illness of dysfunction that warrant medical or nursing intervention. 
  • Trains staff in basic skills required to meet the health needs and problems of the clients. 
  • Trains staff in first aid for accidents or illnesses. 
  • Coordinates annual physical examinations and monitors follow-up treatment. 
  • Reviews lab work and intervenes as needed, based on lab findings. 
  • Transcribes or supervises the transcription of doctors’ orders onto medication sheets. 
  • Reviews clients’ medication for consideration of potential adverse reaction, allergies, interactions of medications, and contra-indications. 
  • Responsible for the supervision of client medication administration. 
  • Reports to the physician clients’ responses to medications and makes recommendations accordingly. 
  • In consultation with pharmacist, the nurse disposes of all medication that is not given to the clients. This includes all excess, tainted, or mis-prescribed medication. 
  • Re-certifies staff members for Approved Medication Administration Personnel (AMAP). 
  • Monitors clients’ clinic appointments and doctors’ findings. 
  • Oversee all hospitalizations and emergency room visits. 
  • Monitor vital signs, blood levels, menstruation periods, hepatitis, tuberculosis, and seizure statues. 
  • Prepares an emergency medical kit for the residence according to the guidelines of the American Red Cross and trains the Residence Supervisor and Assistant Residence Supervisor in the use of this kit. 
  • Observes, reports, and records pertinent data relative to the clients, and enters the required nursing notes for the monthly progress reports. 
  • Works with the nutritionist in checking and re-checking the weight of clients. 
  • Offers clients, as needed, health education, personal care/hygiene, and sex education. 
  • Performs other tasks as required.

 

Qualifications

   

Education:

  • Degree in nursing; B.A. or B.S. degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Current state license as a Registered Nurse.
  • Experience:

  • 2-5 years previous experience as a Registered Nurse required.
  • Experience in an ICF or IRA for the developmentally disabled preferred.
  • Must have at least one to two years supervisory experience; supervisory experience in the healthcare field preferred.
