POSITION OVERVIEW
- We are looking for a skilled Cloud Systems Administrator to join our infrastructure team at Gene By Gene. In this role, you will be responsible for the health, security, and scalability of our hybrid compute environment. You will manage mission-critical systems across Linux and Windows platforms, ensuring seamless identity management through AD and IPA/IDM systems, and overseeing our cloud footprint in AWS and OCI. Your expertise will ensure that our laboratory and bioinformatic pipelines remain performant and resilient.
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages and maintains hybrid cloud infrastructure across Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
- Administers, configures, and patches Linux (RHEL/Ubuntu) and Windows Server environments to ensure 24/7 availability.
- Oversees identity and access management (IAM) utilizing Microsoft Active Directory (AD) and FreeIPA/Red Hat IdM for centralized authentication.
- Deploys and optimizes cloud resources including compute instances, storage volumes, and virtual networks.
- Monitors system performance and troubleshoots complex hardware, software, and network connectivity issues in a hybrid environment.
- Automates routine administrative tasks and system deployments using scripting and configuration management tools.
- Ensures data integrity and security by managing backups, disaster recovery protocols, and encryption standards.
- Protects operations by keeping sensitive genetic and corporate information confidential.
- Updates job knowledge by studying state-of-the-art cloud technologies and emerging DevOps methodologies.
- Improves operations by recommending architectural changes to policies, procedures, and infrastructure design.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience of 8+ years.
- Proven experience in Linux System Administration (rhel-based or debian-based) and Windows Server Administration (2019/2022).
- Strong proficiency in managing Microsoft Active Directory and Linux-based identity systems (FreeIPA/Red Hat IdM).
- Experience configuring and managing cloud environments (AWS VPC, EC2, S3 and/or OCI VCN, Compute, Block Volume).
- Solid understanding of networking principles (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, Load Balancing).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with a focus on system resilience.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with both laboratory and software development teams.
ADDITIONAL COMPETENCIES AND TECHNOLOGIES FAMILIARITY
- Proficiency in Shell Scripting (Bash) and Windows PowerShell for automation.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or CloudFormation) is a strong plus.
- Experience with virtualization technologies and hybrid connectivity (Site-to-Site VPN, Direct Connect/FastConnect).
- Knowledge of security frameworks and compliance (SOC2, HIPAA, or CAP/CLIA requirements).
- Relevant certifications such as AWS SysOps Administrator, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Architect, or Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator (LFCS) are preferred.
