Position Summary: The Flight Paramedic delivers advanced life support and critical care in emergent air and ground settings while working collaboratively with flight crew, healthcare providers, and hospital staff. This role requires strong clinical judgment, teamwork, professionalism, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advanced life support and critical care during helicopter, fixed-wing, and ground transports
- Operate safely and effectively within established medical protocols and scope of practice
- Serve as a team leader in field and hospital settings
- Complete accurate and timely electronic Patient Care Reports
- Maintain aircraft and ambulance readiness, equipment, and infection control standards
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, medical staff, and partner agencies
- Participate in quality assurance, training, and required continuing education
- Uphold patient privacy, professionalism, and Mercy Flights’ core values
Schedule & Work Environment
- 24-hour shift rotation (24 on / 24 off / 24 on / 5 days off)
- Includes nights, weekends, and holidays
- Exposure to varied environmental conditions and high-acuity emergency situations
- Must meet physical demands including lifting up to 125 lbs
Required Qualifications
Education
- Associate degree in Paramedicine (or equivalent required to obtain Oregon Paramedic license)
Experience
- Minimum 3 years recent Paramedic experience on a 911 transporting ambulance
- Flight Paramedic experience preferred
Licenses & Certifications
- Oregon Paramedic License
- National Registry Paramedic (required prior to start)
- Oregon Driver’s License (within 30 days of hire if relocating)
- BLS, ACLS, PALS or PEPP
- NRP (within 12 months of hire)
- FP-C (within 18 months; first exam required within 12 months)
- TPATC (within 18 months)
