Reports to: DOO
Location: Bronx, NY (with travel to LIC, NY)
About Kommissary:
Kommissary is a social enterprise on a mission to spread joy through food. As a proud minority-owned business, we value diversity, equity, and inclusion. We offer a collaborative workplace where your logistical expertise directly impacts the well-being of thousands of New Yorkers daily.
About the Role:
At Kommissary, the Receiving Manager is the gatekeeper of our supply chain and the foundation of our production efficiency. This isn’t just about moving pallets; it’s about mastering the "first mile" of food manufacturing. You will lead the critical transition of raw ingredients from our vendors into our high-volume production ecosystem.
As Kommissary continues to scale its social mission of delivering high-quality meals to New Yorkers, the Receiving Manager ensures that every gram of product entering our facilities meets our rigorous standards for quality, safety, and inventory integrity. We are looking for a high-energy leader who thrives in the fast-paced environment of a minority-owned social enterprise and possesses the tactical skills to manage a complex, temperature-controlled intake operation.
Role Overview:
The Receiving Manager oversees all inbound logistics, dock operations, and raw material intake. This role is responsible for ensuring that 100% of incoming goods are inspected, logged, and stored with surgical precision to support our 24/7 food manufacturing cycle. You will lead a dedicated team of receiving clerks and warehouse associates, streamlining the unloading process while maintaining a flawless "First-In, First-Out" (FIFO) system.
Drawing on extensive experience in food manufacturing and warehouse management, you will develop scalable protocols for vendor compliance, food safety documentation (HACCP), and space optimization. Your leadership will be the catalyst for reducing food waste and ensuring production never stalls due to inventory inaccuracies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct all daily receiving activities, ensuring the timely and accurate unloading of trailers and delivery vehicles.
- Execute rigorous inspections of incoming raw materials (temp checks, packaging integrity, and shelf-life verification) to meet food safety and HACCP standards.
- Lead the reconciliation of packing slips against purchase orders; immediately resolve discrepancies with procurement and vendors.
- Utilize RF scanners, Excel, and Google Suite to provide real-time updates to our inventory management systems, ensuring production teams have visible, accurate data.
- Manage high-volume intake within compact urban warehouse footprints, utilizing creative storage solutions to maximize flow.
- Recruit, train, and mentor a bilingual receiving team, fostering a culture of high-speed organization and extreme attention to detail.
- Partner closely with Production and Procurement to forecast storage needs and manage "Just-In-Time" deliveries.
- Ensure the safe operation of all MHE (Manual Handling Equipment), including forklifts and pallet jacks, maintaining a clean and OSHA-compliant dock environment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 3+ years of management experience specifically in Receiving or Inbound Logistics, ideally within food manufacturing, cold chain distribution, or high-volume commissary operations.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is highly preferred to effectively lead our diverse workforce.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and Google Suite; expert-level experience with RF scanning technology and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
- Experience operating stand-up forklifts, electric pallet jacks, and reach trucks required.
- Ability to work in varying temperature conditions (Freezers, Coolers, and Hot Production Zones).
- A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain DOT certification. Flexibility to commute between our Bronx and LIC facilities as operational needs dictate.
- Flexibility to work across AM, Mid, and PM shifts, including weekends, to support a 24/7 food production cycle.
- Exceptional negotiation skills (for vendor discrepancies), high-stress tolerance, and a "perfectionist" mindset regarding inventory counts and food safety.
- OSHA Certified.
What We Offer:

- Health insurance, PTO, and professional development opportunities.
