Director of Advisory

Briaud Financial Advisors College Station, Texas, United States Executive/Management

About this position

Description:

Overview

We are seeking a Director of Advisory to lead and elevate our Advisory team. This role will be responsible for managing our team of Senior Financial Planners and Financial Planners, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality advice, development of scalable processes, and a culture of accountability and growth. While this role includes strategic-level client engagement, its primary focus is building a durable, high-performing advisory function that consistently raises the bar.

This is a role for someone who sees both people and systems clearly, and who has the discipline and credibility to align them in service of outstanding client outcomes. You build frameworks that others can run with. You think in systems and act through people. This is a leadership role with clear accountability for the standards, tools, and execution of the planning function. This is a chance to lead not just by output, but by influence. You will shape the future of our planning team, and through it, the lives of the clients we serve.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership and Development

  • Provide direct leadership to the planning team; coach, mentor, and hold planners accountable to both firm and client standards.
  • Develop and implement a talent strategy for the team, including hiring, onboarding, training, and succession planning.
  • Run planning team meetings with clear objectives, priorities, and follow-through.
  • Serve as a point of escalation and problem-solving for complex planning issues.

Planning Quality and Consistency

  • Establish and maintain clear standards for planning processes, deliverables, and client service.
  • Ensure planning recommendations are both technically sound and clearly communicated.
  • Review work across the team to spot gaps, trends, and opportunities to improve planning delivery.
  • Shape how planning is delivered, documented, and measured across the team.

Process Optimization and Scalability

  • Lead ongoing improvements to planning workflows, systems, and templates.
  • Partner with operations and leadership to ensure planning integrates smoothly with other firm functions (investments, client service, compliance).
  • Track key metrics and identify ways to improve efficiency without compromising quality.

Selective Client Engagement

  • Maintain a small roster of high-impact client relationships or strategic planning cases.
  • Model best-in-class planning and communication for the team.
  • Assist with key prospective client conversations when needed.

Strategic Advisory Leadership

  • Serve as a member of the firm’s leadership team.
  • Collaborate with leadership on long-term planning strategy, client segmentation, and service model design.
  • Contribute to firm-wide initiatives focused on growth, quality, and culture.
Requirements:

You Might Be a Fit If You:

  • Combine analytical rigor with practical judgment
  • Are energized by coaching and building systems that others thrive in
  • Have experience holding teams to high standards while creating buy-in
  • Gravitate toward structure, clarity, and results
  • Desire to lead an advisory team, not just be a top planner
  • Value credibility, strategic impact, and sustainable execution over visibility or accolades

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of financial planning experience, with a strong record of client impact
  • CFP® designation (or equivalent: CPA, JD, CFA) required
  • Prior experience managing planners or leading a planning team is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Onsite in Bryan/College Station, Texas (full-time)
