PRINCIPAL TRAFFICENGINEER – TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS & ROAD SAFETY (FULL-TIME)
DEPARTMENT:EngineeringSALARY:$103,915.39 – $121,415.39SCHEDULE:Full-Time (Flexible hybrid schedule available)LOCATION: MercerCounty, NJPOSITION OVERVIEW:Mercer County is seeking a full-time Principal TrafficEngineer to lead complex traffic engineering and roadway safety projects thatimpact daily travel throughout the region. This transportation engineering roleis responsible for planning, designing, and implementing traffic controlsystems that support public safety, mobility, and road infrastructureimprovements.The successful Principal Traffic Engineer will apply trafficstudies, roadway design, and safety analysis to implement data-driventransportation solutions. This position offers a flexible hybrid schedule andthe opportunity to work on projects that make a real impact on the quality oflife in Mercer County.REQUIREMENTS OF THEPRINCIPAL TRAFFIC ENGINEER:- The Principal Traffic Engineer must possess a bachelor'sdegree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
- A valid Professional Engineer (PE) license issued by the NJState Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors may substitute for thedegree requirement.
- The Principal Traffic Engineer must have a valid New JerseyDriver's License.
- The Principal Traffic Engineer must have a minimum of three(3) years of experience in traffic engineering, including traffic design,transportation analysis, and roadway systems.
- A master's degree in Engineering may substitute for one yearof required experience.
- The Principal Traffic Engineer will conduct and managetraffic engineering studies, including data collection and traffic patternanalysis.
- The Principal Traffic Engineer will design and implementtraffic control systems such as signals, signs, and pavement markings.
- The Principal Traffic Engineer will develop roadway safetysolutions to improve mobility and reduce traffic accidents.
- The Principal Traffic Engineer will collaborate withmunicipal, county, and state agencies to resolve regional traffic andtransportation issues.
- The Principal Traffic Engineer will lead fieldinvestigations, supervise project implementation, and evaluate systemeffectiveness.
- In-depth knowledge of transportation engineering, roadwaydesign, and traffic operations.
- Proficiency in traffic modeling tools, transportation dataanalysis, and engineering software.
- Strong leadership and project management skills.
- Excellent communication skills to explain technical conceptsand present findings.
