Job Description
The Quality Engineer reports directly to the Quality Assurance Manager and will help manage the effectiveness of manufacturing processes and administration of the company's quality operating procedures. This position is responsible for driving process improvements, managing variation, and influencing cross-functional strategies that reduce defects, scrap and rework while striving to meet customer expectations. The QE will collaborate across engineering, manufacturing and supply chain teams while representing the voice of quality in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and implement quality assurance objectives aligned with organizational goals.
- Communicate and reinforce quality philosophies and best practices across the organization.
- Support organizational adherence to relevant industry quality standards, customer and regulatory requirements (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001, FAA, EASA, etc.), including identifying gaps, developing action plans and providing training across the company.
- Provide documentation support related to industry quality standards, customer and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Review engineering documentation, such as product requirements, specifications, models/designs, drawings and procedures to ensure compliance with internal, customer, and regulatory requirements.
- Lead and support internal and external audits, as well as customer and regulatory source inspections.
- Support production and assembly teams in resolving product and material nonconformance issues, ensuring corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards and/or are compliant with requirements.
- Design and analyze inspection and testing processes, conduct product quality tests (as required), perform statistical analysis to assess products, materials or processes that do not meet required standards and specifications.
- Investigate and support resolution of customer quality complaints, product failures, material review board decisions and corrective/preventive actions.
- Develop strategies and systems to improve supplier performance and productivity, engage in the supplier approval process and maintain supplier certification programs.
- Assist with final inspection activities as requested.
- Prepare, review, and approve First Article Inspection (FAI) documentation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Work/Environment Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand and/or walk for 8 hours per day.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of quality experience in a manufacturing environment certified to ISO 9001, AS9100, or other recognized international quality standard.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and AS9100.
- Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint reading.
- Experience with root cause methodologies (5-Why, Fishbone, 8D, etc.)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP systems
- Preferred experience includes knowledge of other quality system methodologies (Lean Six Sigma, TQM, SMS, etc.)
