GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Position performs routine work in maintaining the security and safety of employees, of the Detention Facility, Courthouse, all county buildings and offices in and around the complex, ensuring security both inside and outside buildings and courtrooms.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Opens the building at the beginning of the day and conducts a general security check of the entire building.
- Provide front door security using a Magnascanner, hand wand, and physical examination of hand carried articles and/or suspicious persons.
- Checks for weapons and any type of contraband to prevent their entry into the building.
GENERAL JOB DUTIES:
- Maintains general security throughout the Courthouse.
- Provides outside security consisting of a roving patrol to check the building, parking lots, and the public as they come and go from the facility.
- Provides courtroom security whenever required by the judges or other staff members.
- Assists transport officers in returning inmates to jail, as needed.
- Patrols secure areas of the building.
- Makes arrests when required.
- Monitors Magnetrometer.
- Responds to all alarms within the building. This includes panic alarms, open doors and fire alarms.
- Provides security upon request at the individual offices within the building.
- Provides information to the public regarding different courtrooms and offices in the building.
- Conducts a security check of the building at day’s end, after locking doors, and ensuring that all non-employees have left the building. This security check is the same as the check done at the beginning of the workday. It includes but is not limited to:
- Doors and windows
- Ceilings and walls
- Benches, desks, tables and chairs
- Trash cans
- Holding cell areas
- Waiting rooms, restrooms and hallways
- Maintenance rooms
- Judge’s chambers
- All other offices in the building
- Attorney/client conference rooms
- Jury deliberation rooms
- Restricted and secured passageways
- Perform other similar and related duties as assigned.
- Assist in Detention facility when needed.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Experience:
Security experience in the legal or courtroom system preferred with a working knowledge of general peace officer skills including but not limited to weapons, arrests, security control, and skills in persuasive communication.
A working knowledge of security planning for judicial facilities including but not limited to: judicial officers, court employees, attorneys, victims/associates, defendants/associates, media, public and others that might request the use of the facility. Experience managing threats to safety and security, natural, mechanical, accidental/medical, security challenges such as notorious trials, high threat potential trials and other unusual circumstances.
Combination of education and experience could waive specific requirements.
Licenses/Certifications:
Current and valid Colorado Driver’s License
Colorado Certified Peace Officer Certification
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical Requirements: Walk, stand, sit, type, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects or tools, reach with hands and arms, talk, listen, hear, read, see, lift. Position requires extensive walking and standing for long periods. Requires clear auditory qualities required to hear routine conversations, alarms, and signals; color vision to monitor movement, persons and objects, near and far.
Lifting: 25 pound requirement
Exposure to Elements: Normal office conditions, exterior weather conditions
Handling of Dangerous Equipment: No routine, but may have to secure weapons, knives, stun gun, pepper spray and similar
Risk of Assault or Injury: Daily risk of angry and/or confrontational individual(s), may have weapons, may need to physically restrain public, possible blood born pathogen contamination
