Job Summary:

Voyager is seeking a Mechanical Designer to develop and deliver high-quality 3D and 2D CAD models supporting solid rocket motors, energetics production, chemical processing systems, and aerospace hardware. This role designs tooling, production equipment, facilities layouts, and structural assemblies that enable rapid development and reliable manufacturing. 


The Mechanical Designer will partner with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and R&D to turn concepts and requirements into practical, production-ready solutions that support mission-critical programs. 


Responsibilities: 

This job requires working with explosives and explosive support equipment. Teamwork is especially important here in all aspects of the job as we strive for safety. 

  • Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings while applying GD&T to ensure functional tolerance and manufacturability. 
  • Work with the engineering team to develop technical solutions supporting the development and manufacturing of solid rocket motors, chemical production, and energetic systems. 
  • Collaborate with engineers to translate requirements, hand calculations, and concepts into producible designs. 
  • Support rapid design iterations in prototype and production environments. 
  • Support design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) 
  • Cooperate with team members to ensure adherence to industry standards in safety, quality, performance, and reliability. 
  • Prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders to support planning, budgeting, process, and technical reviews. 
  • Manage revisions, ECNs, and product lifecycle withing PLM/PDM system 


Required Qualifications:

  •  5+ years of CAD design/drafting (SolidWorks preferred) design/drafting experience in aerospace, defense, heavy industrial, or similar. 
  • Proficiency in one or more CAD software (SolidWorks, NX/Catia, CREO/Pro-E) 
  • Strong understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5), engineering drawings, tolerancing, mechanical assemblies, and manufacturing processes. 
  • Experience with PDM/PLM systems (Windchill, Teamcenter, or similar). 
  • Experience with configuration management and quality documentation. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional engineering environment. 
  • Good verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Good time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. 
  • US Citizen 
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain State and Federal explosives licenses, including: 
    • Be 21 years of age or older. 
    • Pass pre-employment drug test. 
    • Pass State and Federal background checks. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience in solid rocket motors, propulsion, chemical manufacturing, energetics, or pressure vessels. 
  • Familiarity with aerospace standards (ASME Y14 series, NASA-STD, MIL-STD) 
  • Experience supporting rapid development, prototype programs, production, transition, or rate manufacturing. 
  • Knowledge of weldments, casting, composites, high-temperature materials, insulation systems, or additive manufacturing best practices. 
  • Experience designing tooling, fixtures, support equipment, and test hardware. 
  • Ability to be a self-starter and solve complex problems from first principles with minimal supervision, both independently and as a member of a team.
