ELECTRODIAGNOSTIC TECHNOLOGIST II
Under limited supervision, the Electrodiagnostic Technologist II performs complex electrodiagnostic and neurodiagnostic procedures in the laboratory, at bedside, and in all critical care units. Performs all modalities required as a registered neurodiagnostic technologist.
Responsibilities
- Explains the test procedure to the patient to obtain patient’s cooperation necessary for a complete examination. Checks the patient’s medical chart for orders and special needs, with particular attention to patients with pacemakers and defibrillators.
- Assists the Electrodiagnostic (EDX) physician with the EDX studies as needed. Prepares and/or manipulates the instrument.
- Applies surface recording electrodes.
- Maintains all instrumentation in excellent working order. Checks calibrations and makes minor maintenance adjustments and repairs deemed by the instrument manufacturer as appropriate and safe.
- Performs standard and advanced Nerve conduction studies (NCS’s) in a highly skilled, patient appropriate manner, recognizes normal and abnormal results and recognizes and takes reasonable steps to eliminate physiological and nonphysiologically artifact.
- Monitors certain NCS’s during surgeries at risk for peripheral nerve damage or for repairing nerves under a physician’s supervision.
- Logs and bills NCS’s and EMG’s according to the laboratory policies and procedures.
- Performs all modalities required of a Neurodiagnostic Technologist A & B as well as other related duties as required.
- Supervises and participates in teaching junior personnel, END students and Rehab residents when requested.
- Electrodiagnostic technologist will attend AAET and ASET symposiums and training courses designed to educate technologists regarding new procedures as well as maintaining their registry in nerve conduction studies. Continues education through journal
Experience Required: 5-7 years
Education Required: Associate's Degree Associate degree in Applied Science
Licenses And Certification Required:
- Certified Nerve Conduction Technologist
- Basic Life Support
Preferred: Successful completion of American Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologist (AAET) REGISTRY; Registered in Nerve Conduction Studies
