About this position

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Actively monitor the pool to prevent accidents and respond to emergencies.

Core responsibilities include:

  •         Surveillance and Safety Enforcement: Continuously scan the water and surrounding areas for unsafe conditions, warn swimmers of hazards, and enforce facility rules and regulations.

  •         Emergency Response: Perform rescues for distressed or drowning swimmers, administer CPR, first aid, and use rescue equipment such as tubes, buoys, or backboards.

  •          Facility Maintenance: Inspect and maintain pool equipment, test water quality, assist with cleaning, and ensure the swimming area is free of hazards.

  •         Instruction and Guidance: Teach swimming lessons or provide guidance on water safety practices as needed.

  •         Documentation and Communication: Record incidents, maintain logs of participation, communicate with supervisors, and coordinate emergency action plans (EAP) when necessary.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  •          Certifications: Current lifeguard certification, CPR, First Aid, and AED training, often through the Red Cross or equivalent.

  •         Physical Fitness: Strong swimming ability, endurance, and readiness to perform rescues under physically demanding conditions.

  •         Observation and Decision-Making: Vigilance, rapid assessment of risks, and the ability to make quick, sound decisions in emergencies.

  •          Communication and Customer Service: Clear verbal communication to enforce rules, instruct patrons, and provide a welcoming environment.

  •         Professionalism and Reliability: Conscientious attitude, punctuality, and the ability to work well with members and employees.
