OBJECTIVE / ACCOUNTABILITY

The Assistant Propagator supports perennial propagation efforts across the greenhouse and nursery, specializing in division and seed propagation. This role contributes to daily propagation activities, crop care, and facility support while building technical expertise and consistency. Working under the guidance of the Propagation Foreman, the Assistant Propagator plays an essential role in executing propagation plans with precision and efficiency.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Propagation Support

  • Assist with perennial propagation through division and seed according to established procedures.
  • Prepare plants, trays, media, and work areas for propagation activities.
  • Perform planting, dividing, seeding, labeling, spacing, and staging of crops.
  • Follow propagation recipes and instructions to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Assist with post-propagation care including watering, misting, fertility application, and hardening.

Crop Care & Greenhouse Tasks

  • Monitor crops for moisture needs, stress, or issues and report concerns to the Propagation Foreman.
  • Assist with irrigation tasks including hand watering and operating basic irrigation systems as directed.
  • Support greenhouse sanitation, organization, and workflow efficiency.
  • Assist with pruning, trimming, and general plant maintenance as needed.

Records, Materials & Organization

  • Assist with labeling, tracking, and basic recordkeeping for propagated crops.
  • Help maintain clean, organized propagation and greenhouse workspaces.
  • Support material handling including trays, media, and supplies.
  • Assist with cleanup and end-of-day organization to prepare for future work.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 

  • Willingness and ability to work in greenhouse and outdoor conditions
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCES

  • Prior nursery or greenhouse experience preferred but not required
  • Demonstrated interest in plant propagation and nursery production

SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

  • Ability to perform repetitive, detail-oriented work with accuracy
  • Ability to follow instructions and adhere to standard operating procedures
