About this position

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Employ attendants to operate and maintain the Lasix and Receiving Barn in a clean and healthy condition.
  • Recommends documents and issues discipline, conducts interviews for new positions, and assigns team members as necessary.
  • Prepare paperwork for the testing of horses and the collection of urine samples.
  • Ensure that one person is designated to handle barn paperwork, fill out sample cards, and provide labor numbers to employees assigned to collect samples.
  • Ensure that only authorized personnel having business with a horse designated for testing are allowed in the test barn
  • Ensure that the horse to be tested remains under the visual supervision of test barn personnel.
  • Ensure that after a successful urine collection, the time of collection is noted and the sample sealed in front of the trainer's representative, and the signature of the witness to the sealing is obtained.
  • Observe the splitting and sealing of urine samples after collection.
  • Prepare blood and urine samples to go to the lab.
  • Maintain the Salix list on the computer.
  • Authorizes Salix, 1st time bleeders.
  • Proof entries on the Salix list for correctness.
  • Ensure that all collection procedures are done in accordance with the chain of custody guidelines.
  • Ensure that samples are refrigerated or frozen in a locked or security-sealed container or ice chest until such time as they are transported to the laboratory.
  • Ensure that a daily sampling log is maintained.
  • Fax the list of samples and deliver paperwork to the Stewards.
  • Promotes outstanding customer relations.
  • Promotes honesty and trust amongst the team.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.                                    
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Extensive previous experience in the handling of Thoroughbred Horses.
  • Must be able to understand and practice the rules of racing under the authority of the Delaware Racing Commission regarding the Chain of Custody and the Bleeders’ Program.
  • Able to remain flexible in an environment of constant change.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule based on the business needs, which includes days, weekends, and holidays.
