Physical & Chemical Lab Engineer

Job Summary

This position is responsible for monitoring, performing, and reporting the results of laboratory tests on raw materials, semi-finished components, and finished products to ensure quality and conformity to standards.

Essential Duties & Functions

  • Develops methods and written procedures for performing laboratory tests required for material acceptance and release. 
  • Evaluates laboratory test results and issues test reports.
  • Provides training to lab technicians and oversees the lab test operations.
  • Maintains laboratory and instruments in working order and verifies accuracy and precision of measurements through calibration and cross-lab check programs.
  • Works with R&D and Process Engineering to conduct trials and experiments to develop/test new products and processes. 
  • Participates in cross functional teams to evaluate and audit existing and new suppliers’ credentials and compliance.
  • Complies with policies, documents, procedures, and work instructions of the company and performs his tasks in a safe manner
  • Perform other duties of equal or less complexity as assigned or directed by management
  • Engage and retain high-performance standards and elevate level of responsibility and performance

Skills/Qualifications

  • MS Office suite and computer skills
  • Applied understanding of MSA Fundamentals, Equipment Calibration, Data Acquisition, QOS, FMEA, G8 or similar approach and 6-Sigma skill set is a plus
  • Experience with Lab testing equipment including plant experience is highly desirable
  • Ability to function as part of a team and work cooperatively toward team goals
  • Excellent leadership, communications, and interpersonal skills

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position is not expected to have supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Engineering, or a related Science / Engineering field; 
  • Minimum 2 years of engineering or laboratory experience

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The noise level in the work environment may be noisy.
