Description

Thompson Software Solutions is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to support the development of software systems for a military aircraft platform. This is an opportunity to contribute directly to safety & mission-critical avionics and embedded capabilities that enable the performance, safety, and effectiveness of military aviation systems. 

 

This position requires a software engineer to use a wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the software field to develop, integrate, and test software products. The successful candidate will be a member of a high-performing multi-site team and must be self-motivated with a strong work ethic, time-management, and interpersonal skills. In this role, you will work independently at times on projects, at other times will be in a collaborative team environment with other software engineers, as well as other program development and deployment teams.    


Basic Requirements:

       Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline

       8+ years of C, C++, and/or Ada software development experience

       Prior experience writing embedded software (C, C++, and/or Ada)

       Prior experience troubleshooting/debugging software on target hardware in lab/mock-up environments

       Prior experience using IBM DOORS to author, review, and maintain software requirements with full traceability.

       HW I/O device development and integration (MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, ethernet, RS232, discrete, analog)

       Experience with real-time operating systems (e.g. Lynx, Green Hills, Wind River)

       Ability to professionally communicate project status and collaborate on technical solutions with clients and peers

       Ability to work onsite 100%

Preferred / Additional Skills

       Master’s degree in a STEM discipline

       Experience developing embedded safety critical software in Ada

       Proficient with Linux and Windows development environments

       Proficient with Atlassian or similar tools (Confluence, JIRA, Bitbucket, etc.)

       Experience using static analysis tools (Parasoft, Coverity, SonarQube, or similar analysis tool)

       Experience with structural coverage and software test automation tools for embedded systems (e.g. VectorCAST)

       Experience with DO-178C, MIL-HDBK-516 and safety-critical software development practices

       Experience with Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA), ARINC 653 and flight software development

       Experience communicating and documenting complex technical designs

       Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills

       Ability to travel 10%
