About the Role:

The Steel & Manufacturing Estimator plays a critical role in the financial and operational success of steel fabrication and manufacturing projects by accurately assessing project costs and resource requirements. This position involves analyzing blueprints, specifications, and other documentation to prepare detailed and competitive cost estimates that support bidding and project planning. The estimator collaborates closely with engineering, procurement, and production teams to ensure estimates reflect current market conditions, material costs, labor rates, and production capabilities. By providing precise and timely estimates, the role directly influences project profitability, client satisfaction, and strategic decision-making. Ultimately, the estimator ensures that projects are financially viable and aligned with company goals while maintaining compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in steel fabrication or manufacturing estimating.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
• Strong knowledge of steel materials, fabrication processes, and manufacturing workflows.
• Experience with estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification in Construction Estimating (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator - CPE).
• Experience with ERP systems and project management software.
• Familiarity with welding, machining, and assembly processes specific to steel manufacturing.
• Strong understanding of supply chain logistics and vendor management.
• Previous experience working in a unionized manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities:

• Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and project documents to determine scope and requirements.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates including materials, labor, equipment, subcontractor services, and overhead expenses.
• Collaborate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain accurate pricing and delivery timelines.
• Analyze historical data and market trends to forecast costs and identify potential risks or savings opportunities.
• Communicate with project managers and clients to clarify project details and adjust estimates as necessary.
• Maintain and update estimating databases and documentation to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Support the bidding process by preparing proposals and participating in bid reviews and negotiations.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and safety regulations throughout the estimating process.

Skills:

The required skills enable the estimator to accurately analyze project requirements and translate them into comprehensive cost estimates, ensuring all factors such as materials, labor, and equipment are accounted for.
