Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our growing Design Services team at our Duluth ECC office. This role will lead the design and review of mechanical systems for large-scale industrial facilities, ensuring projects meet technical standards, regulatory requirements, and client expectations.


The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in mechanical system design for industrial environments, including HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems. This individual will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop high-quality designs while supporting project planning efforts such as cost estimation, scheduling coordination, and technical oversight during construction. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to complex industrial projects while helping guide engineering excellence within the design team.


What you'll do

  • Lead the design and review of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and industrial piping systems for large industrial facilities
  • Develop and review construction documents, including mechanical drawings, specifications, and engineering calculations
  • Utilize design tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, and BIM platforms to produce coordinated and accurate engineering designs
  • Perform and review mechanical design calculations to ensure systems meet performance requirements, codes, and industry standards
  • Conduct site observations and field assessments to verify construction progress and resolve design or installation challenges
  • Review shop drawings and contractor submittals to confirm compliance with project specifications and design intent
  • Provide construction administration support, including responding to RFIs and assisting with technical coordination during construction
  • Assist with project controls support, including coordination related to cost estimates, scheduling, and project planning activities
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on schedule and within scope
  • Support internal quality standards and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and design staff


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology from an accredited university
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required, with an active NCEES record preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical system design for industrial or large commercial building projects
  • Strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems, plumbing systems, and industrial piping design
  • Proficiency with industry design tools including Revit, AutoCAD, and BIM platforms
  • Demonstrated experience preparing construction documents, specifications, and engineering calculations
  • Experience supporting construction administration, including site visits, shop drawing review, and technical coordination with contractors
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to address complex engineering challenges
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams
