Rate of Pay: $16.00
Shift: 1st Only

Position Summary

The Viking Machine Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating the Viking automated nailing system used to assemble pallet components or fully assembled pallets. This role focuses on proper machine setup, accurate nail-pattern programming, continuous monitoring of machine performance and maintaining continuous production flow. The operator must demonstrate mechanical aptitude, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining quality, safety and productivity standards throughout every shift.

Key Responsibilities

Machine Operation

  • Operate the Viking automated machine to assemble pallets or components according to production specifications.
  • Set up and adjust nail patterns, jigs, clamps and machine parameters based on pallet design and customer requirements.
  • Monitor conveyor and board-feed systems to ensure consistent material flow and alignment.
  • Verify accurate nail placement, depth, and pattern consistency throughout the shift.
  • Conduct basic troubleshooting including misfires, alignment issues or feed interruptions.

Quality Control

  • Inspect incoming lumber components before loading them into the Viking system to ensure they meet quality standards
  • Verify assembled pallets meet company and customer specifications for nail patterns, dimensions and structural integrity.
  • Remove and report defective materials or out-of-spec finished products.
  • Continuously check finished product and make any necessary adjustments to reduce waste and rework.

Safety & Maintenance

  • Follow all company safety procedures, including PPE use and proper machine operation practices.
  • Maintain a clean and hazard-free area around machine.
  • Conduct routine maintenance such as cleaning nail heads, checking sensors, inspecting alignment guides and removing debris.
  • Immediately equipment malfunctions, air-pressure issues, or electronic control concerns to maintenance and supervision.
  • Follow lockout/tagout procedures before conducting any non-routine maintenance or repair tasks.

Production Support

  • Communicate with supervisors and team members about production targets, material needs, or machine concerns.
  • Assist with stacking, bundling, sorting, or transporting pallets as needed.
  • Participate in production meetings and follow assigned shift tasks.
  • Support additional pallet-assembly or lumber-line operations as needed.

Qualifications

Required

  • Experience operating automated nailing systems or similar industrial assembly equipment (experience preferred but not required).
  • Ability to read tape measures, production sheets, nail pattern sheets and basic pallet blueprints.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and stand for long periods.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude including an understanding hydraulic-powered tools, alignment systems and automated controls.

  • Fast‑paced environment with repetitive tasks and physical labor.
  • Work area is not climate-controlled

Schedule

  • Full‑time; shifts may include early mornings, evenings, or overtime depending on production demands.

Compensation
