Vodec is currently hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) to provide services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities as well as physical disabilities.
You will work outside the walls of a hospital and nursing home setting, You will have a smaller caseload. You will have the ability to work independently alongside a great team. No uniforms.
You will work for a non-profit organization whose mission statement is to provide services to persons with disabilities in order that those persons may live, work and participate in the community in the least restrictive environment to achieve their full potential and to lead a fulfilling and happy life!

Position Summary: Our Registered Nurse (RN) assess consumer health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing protocols and plans, and maintain and review medical and medication needs. Administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled consumers. Teach and educate staff on consumers’ medical and medication needs.
Compensation, Location and Schedule
- Wage based on experience
- $1,000 hiring bonus (paid in one installment upon completion of 6-months continued employment)
- Location: Urbandale, IA
Position:
- Full-time: 40 hours per week; Monday-Friday; day hours but must be available to take on-call duties outside normal business hours
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Maintain communication with physicians, pharmacies and specialists as needed
- Coordinate, monitor and review medications for consumers as required
- Take or record medication information and vital signs of consumers, which is usually comprised of blood pressure, body temperature, respiration and heartbeat rate among other vital signs
- Review, verify and transcribe doctor orders for consumers
- Communicate with Vodec supervisors on medical conditions and medications for consumers
- Provide training and education as needed
- Prepare consumer health evaluations as needed
- Complete medication error root causes on medication general event reports for consumers
- Maintains a comfortable, orderly, safe and clean environment for consumers
- Responds to medical emergencies
- Perform clerical duties
- Maintain all training requirements to renew active RN license
- Provides health care CPR/AED and basic first aid to consumers as appropriate and not in conflict with doctors’ orders and likewise as appropriate to other employees
- Regular and punctual attendance during scheduled hours is essential
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have an active Registered Nurse (RN) license and be registered in Iowa (NEW GRADUATES WELCOME)
- Valid driver’s license
- Must be able to pass a background check
- No founded reports of abuse or neglect
- Satisfactory driving record (no more than three moving violations in the most recent 36-month period)
- Must be able to lift, push and pull at least 50 pounds
- Must be available to take on-call duties outside normal business hours
